Written Android App Review
If you’ve been looking for a builder app that’s all about guided city planning without too much story to hold it back, My Country is the Android app for you.
Gameplay
The My Country Android app makes building a thriving city child’s play with an enthusiastic tutorial mode and the perpetual pop of tasks.
My Country
As the owner of a new country, you will build houses, create jobs by opening factories, enhance your land with gardens, provide adequate energy to keep things going, and otherwise grow a new civilization from the ground up.
It’s a classic builder app that’s a little light on the storyline. Personally I always get more from builders when they include a backstory of some kind, the more detailed and unique the better.
Despite the glaringly obvious lack of a story, the My Country Android app manages to be pretty fun. You are constantly building, upgrading, hiring or collecting contracts. I was surprised by the constant action. My Country isn’t built to be a casual game, it definitely requires a bit more effort.
User Interface
My Country
As you can imagine, running a country is pretty complicated. There are a lot of controls and menus to access in the My Country Android app. For the most part these menus are kept small and pushed to the edges of the screen.
If you are still having issues seeing use the zoom button to scroll out a couple of times. It’s a great way to get a clearer picture of your thriving metropolis. A word of caution: collecting and managing properties is slightly more difficult when you are zoomed out, so remember to zoom back in.
Graphics & Design
Images and graphics are properly bright and cheerful in the My Country Android app. There’s even an option to paint buildings in different colors. I quickly took the opportunity to construct a bright pink town. Every girl’s dream.
All kidding aside, I do not have a problem with My Country’s graphics. While I didn’t find them inspiring, some of the more advanced buildings and gardens are quite pleasant. I particularly like the windmill animation details.
Value
Like so many of my favorite Android apps, My Country is free to download and play. With mediocre graphics and an absentee story line, it would have to be.
The app concept is not original, but I do think it will be a good civilization builder for new users. Think of it as a builder app for younger kids. Despite the complex concepts, the constant guided ventures and helpful screen pops will help them get the hang of it easily.
