Written Android App Review

Ah, the five D’s. Just typing them takes me back to the magical days of dodge ball, but that’s a story for another Android app review. For our purposes, we will apply the five D’s to the new Dodging Fish Android app from Andoop Team.

When I was in college I had a curious and brief obsession with Pop Cap’s Feeding Frenzy games. When I found Dodging Fish in the Android Market, I thought I had hit the jackpot and prepared for a fierce trip down memory lane to my golden years.

Did I find it? You’ll just have to read my Android app review of Dodging Fish to find out.

Dodging Fish Android Apps Review

Dodging Fish

At face value, the Dodging Fish Android app is quite similar to Feeding Frenzy. You play a fish. In the water there are many dangers such as larger fish hungry for your tiny fish flesh, mines and even spikes. Eat smaller fish to gain points, unlock features and progress to more hardy yellow and blue fish.

Unlike my other favorite fish games, Dodging Fish is flipping hard. Your fish swims steadily in one direction. The surface is perpetually covered with mines, and the ocean floor is one spiky death trap.

Think of the Dodging Fish Android app as Helicopter in the water. The game style is exactly the same, only harder. There are only three types of predatory fish, and they are the same right from the game’s get-go.

One slight plus is that the game comes in two modes, easy and hard. Needless to say, I was slightly disappointed with the Dodging Fish Android app.

Graphics & Design

There are not any especially redeeming design elements in the Dodging Fish Android app, either. The graphics are simple and cartoon-like.

I can’t be too harsh; the game does have some cute anime style introduction graphics. The water scene changes ever so slightly as you progress through the water. Nothing special to see here.

User Interface

Dodging Fish

You control your finned crusader with a simple touch of your finger. Make contact with the screen to swim up, let go of the screen to descend. Like I said, this is a dead ringer for a helicopter style game.

I wish the app had sensitivity controls. I found the app hyper sensitive. A slight touch sent the fish flying towards the bomb strewn surface, and that was that. Again it’s a swing and a miss.

The UI is further complicated by ad placement. Advertisements block the upper right-hand corner of the screen, so it’s nearly impossible to tell when a bomb is coming.

Value

Putting my jilted sense of nostalgia aside, I will admit that if you’re looking for a challenging game that’s free to download you might want to give Dodging Fish a chance. I gave up on it after a dozen failed swims. Maybe you’ll have better luck.
