If you’re looking for a driving app that’s pure fun, give the new Reckless Getaway Android app from developer polarbit a try. Perform death defying tricks, smash anyone who gets in your way, give the fuzz a ride they’ll never forget, and do it all while leaving a trail of stolen money in your wake.
Gameplay
Reckless Getaway
Polarbit is all about creating top notch driving apps for Android, from Reckless Racing to Wave Blazer. Their MO has not changed. My Android app review found Reckless Getaway to be a really solid game with two fun modes, an amusing story line and one wild ride.
Your job is to control a late 60’s muscle car as the police try to nab you after a daring bank robbery. Turns out robbing a bank was the easy part. Road blocks, boosts, innocent by standers and more get in your way.
In getaway mode you must evade the coppers, collect loot and use boosts, ramps and more to complete death defying aerial stunts. I prefer the “wreckless” mode, where you drive a rig and focus more on smashing the competition to bits.
There are 16 sixteen different levels, and you may compete on each in both game modes. So really there are 32 different game experiences to be had. Levels are quick, perpetually exciting and keep the game moving.
As driving apps go, Reckless Getaway is as good as it gets.
Controls
Reckless Getaway
You can play the Reckless Getaway Android app two different ways, either with on screen steering or with tilt controlled driving.
Driving app fans will appreciate the extremely well calibrated tilt driving controls. If the default settings aren’t to your liking, there is an in app adjustment option. Either way, if you love to tilt, Reckless Getaway will perform perfectly.
The on screen steering functions pretty well, although the game could use an acceleration option, or maybe even a brake.
Graphics & Design
Graphically, the Reckless Getaway Android app is passable. As driving games go it is detailed, colorful, with plenty of variety in the cars and levels. Reckless Getaway’s graphics were on par with other apps where you control a car you can visually see on the road, however first person drivers such as EA’s Need For Speed leave it in the dust.
Value
If you like driving apps and are looking for a new one, Reckless Getaway is an awesome app to add to your arsenal. It costs $2.99 in the Android Market, and its addictive gameplay style is worth every penny.
