Written Android App Review

Oh, darts, how we adore you! You’ve been occupying the darkest section of the pub since time immemorial, and we can’t count the number of times we’ve stood (or slouched slightly dazed) before your checkered face, sharp object in hand. Thankfully, with the help of Darts 3D Android app, by developer Carl Hopf, we can now enjoy this classic darts experience everywhere on our Android devices. The Android app offers the same classic and competitive gameplay you’d expect, making it easy to indulge your darts addiction on the go.

Concept and Gameplay

Darts 3D for Android

Our Android app review found that almost everything you need to know about Darts 3D can be gleamed from the title of the application: This free offering in the Android Market provides a three-dimensional dart board, a unique aiming method, and a convenient way to toss darts at a cork board from your phone.

Darts 3D comes stock with three different game methods, most notably a 501 and a 301 method. In these, players must toss a trifecta of darts per throw, knocking the combined total off their starting value. There’s another ruleset which we particularly enjoyed, that being the “Cricket” setting: In this, players must peg three times a specific number value from the board. It’s a neat way to play, and adds some much needed variety to the mix.

Not to mention the multiplayer settings, which add heaps of value to the title. Here players can peruse leader boards, set up matches with other users, and play darts competitively to their heart’s content. Players are also free to spectate matches, and chat it up with other users along the home screen. All in all, it’s a much needed blast of functionality, and we had quite the time hamming it up and throwing around a few darts.

Design and Graphics

For a free app, Darts 3D looks absolutely fantastic on our Android devices. The interface is slick, and the board itself is sharp and professional. The aiming mechanic is unique, foregoing physics-based functionality in favor of a point-and-pull concept. It works like a charm (the physics animations are spot-on) but we found it a bit too easy. Using a system modeled after another application like Angry Birds might have tickled our Challenge Bone a bit more, but regardless, the scope currently in place is ace, and certainly won’t disappoint.

Overall Value

Considering Darts 3D is absolutely free in the Android Market, it’s a no brainer recommendation for the darts fan with an Android capable device. We found the concept rock-solid, the graphics gorgeous, and the multiplayer an absolute time-sink. There are ever-present banner ads that gunk up the works, but if you’re willing to overlook this slight visual blemish, the gameplay to be had here is easily justified by the price.
