Written Android App Review

We’ll be the first to admit it: We haven’t got a bloody clue how QR codes actually work. I mean, we understand there’s some kind of information locked inside there, but how that voodoo actually behaves leaves us befuddled. Thankfully, there’s at least half a dozen QR code scanners available in the Android Market. So which do we like the most? To be honest: QR Barcode Scanner by developer Warriors. We like the app for many reasons, all of which are listed below. Either way, if you’re looking for a free, comprehensive, and rock-solid QR scanner, you could hardly do better than QR Barcode Scanner for the Android platform.

People who want to unravel the mysteries of this and other apps can find a resource for learning more here.

Concept and Functionality

QR Barcode Scanner

The service QR Barcode Scanner is so simple it’s even locked into the title: The app will take a look at any QR code you bloody well please, and will translate all those inkblot-like specks into a readable content piece. This includes any kind of QR code, even those number strings attached to UPS packages.

However, that’s not the only thing QR Barcode Scanner will do for you. The app will also read UPC codes, or any other barcode you can find. You can even manually enter a barcode using the number pad, if for some reason you haven’t got a readable item nearby. Add to that the fact that you can encode your items directly from the application, and you’re looking at one solid offering. And of course, any item read from a barcode can be shared with the world via Facebook, Twitter, eMail, or your nearest post office—We’re kidding about the latter, but you certainly won’t be jones-ing for options. And to top it all off, there’s also a history tracker that will count up your recent finds, storing them for exposition at a later date.

Design and Layout

We’re rather fond of QR Barcode Scanner’s layout as well. The title keeps things simple, supporting a rather spartan list of features at the main menu, which can be further subjugated by the tabbed navigational options along the top. Everything QR Barcode Scanner has to offer can be found in only a few clicks—or sometimes less—making it the perfect solution for a quick QR scan, especially when the user is in an extreme hurry. It also couldn’t be easier to share items across the web, as exporting functionality is built in directly. All in all, QR Barcode Scanner is a comprehensive, simplistic, and rock-solid barcode reader with the regrettable inclusion of a few banner ads.

Overall Value

Best of all, QR Barcode Scanner is completely free in the Android Market, thanks to the aforementioned adverts. You won’t have to break the bank to give the title a run through, and if you’re like us, you’ll very quickly find a place for the app on your home screen.

  1. Any comment on all the crash comments in the Adroid Market? Probably Android-version specific, no? Has Warriors figured this out yet? p.s. how on earth are they getting 3.5 stars overall when most reviews are 1 star?
