Word Search: Written Android App Review
We aren’t ashamed to admit it: We might just be the world’s worst word searchers. For some reason we just can’t get hang of the game mechanic, finding the tiniest of AP Board words in the jumble of letters. However, even that doesn’t keep us from enjoying Word Search Free, by developer Devarai. The app has a lot to offer the dedicated word hound, and even for us amateurs, its online scoreboards, various difficulty levels, and high-definition graphics are a real peach to behold. Concept and Gameplay
Word Search for Android
If you have ever been introduced to the concept of a word search puzzle, then you already know (for the most part) how Word Search Free operates on the Android platform. Users are charged with finding a list of preset words amongst a jumble of letters. When a word has been spotted, players simply drag a finger along its length, identifying it and removing it from the list. From there, it’s happy hunting until all of the words are gone.
In this sense, Word Search Free is very much a traditional word search puzzle game. However, the developers have thrown in several goodies to keep the mix interesting. For starters, there’s a total of three unique difficulty settings to entertain the player with. We were pleased with how hard the higher difficulties were, though we certainly preferred the relaxing nature of the lighter ones. Furthermore, we greatly appreciated the fact that the app pools its words from a number of different categories, each of which can be selected to match your needs. In addition, each new puzzle is completely unique, offering a randomized list to choose from. We found this particularly engaging, as it ensure that each new game is a fresh experience.
Design and Graphics
One of the aspects most touted about Word Search Free is its stellar graphics sets. The puzzles really are high-definition, offering a certain sheen and shine that we liked immensely. We also dug the copious amounts of in-app themes that provide eye-candy platforms for our puzzling. Our top pick happened to be the stock chalkboard, but if you’d rather enjoy the look of an old scroll, you can do that as well. Even better, we liked the addition of the online leader boards, which in their design gave us just the competitive edge we were looking for in Word Search Free.
Overall Fun and Value
Of course, the free edition of Word Search Free is ad-supported. However, this hardly detracts from the fun, and with an unlimited number of levels, you aren’t likely to tap out the app’s potential any time soon. And if you’re willing to fork over a scant few dollars, you can enjoy the ad-less premium version, which features the same excellent graphics and gameplay. All in all, Word Search Free is a winner in our book, and earns a full recommendation.
