Babe Magnet: Written Android App Review
Are you looking for an unusual way to boost your game at the pub this weekend? Are you tired of going home alone, and feel like you’re ready to up the ante on your socializing skills? What if we told you that you can do all of this using a simple Android application? We can’t guarantee the apps effectiveness (Hell, even the developers say this isn’t a precise science) but Babe Magnet, by MTS Freestyle, is the perfect excuse to chat up women at the club.
Concept and Functionality
The app has arrived slightly ahead of St. Valentine’s day, but no matter how you slice it, Babe Magnet promises from the ground up to boost your sex appeal and romance game. The title does this through a variety of methods, not all of which are completely scientific: Though, as the app itself points out, they’ll function as some decent conversation starters, no matter what. In essence, the app emits a high frequency pitch that—according to the in-app documentation—can only be heard by young women. If you’ve ever played around with the infamous “Teen Tone” ringtone, Babe Magnet is more or less the same idea. However, the developers promise the tone has been optimized to attract only young, beautiful “chicks.”
The idea here is that women in your area here the tone, but don’t know where exactly it’s coming from. If the phone is in your pocket, or laying on a table, they’ll have a vague sense of the sound emanating from your direction, but nothing more. This, hypothetically, will lead them to talk to you, as only they can hear the sound, and sense you as the source. Whether or not this actually works largely depends on your own ability to pass off the experience and start a new conversation. So from a purely aesthetic point of view, we suppose Babe Magnet does have the potential to draw you more attention, but then again, we still wouldn’t bet money on it.
Design and Layout
The app itself has a Vegas after a three-day week-end look that we found a bit kitschy, but no less entertaining. In-app navigation is a cinch, and we had no problem setting up the tones, or starting up the sounds. We appreciated the fact that several frequencies were included, as well as the additional fake call feature. This simulates a telephone call to your device from a “hot chick,” potentially starting up some interesting conversations. However, this portion of the app didn’t always render correctly, often leaving large black bars on either side of the call screen.
Overall Value
We’ll be fair: As daft as Babe Magnet sounds, it actually does have some science behind it: If you produce a high frequency sound which mostly women will here, they are somewhat likely to start up a conversation. However, considering the app then relies on you to carry the social load, the real value of Babe Magnet largely depends on the laughs, as well as the title’s novelty.
