We’ll be honest about this: We’ve seen more than a few episodes of the television program Scrubs, and though we’d very much like to say we’re dedicated fans of the series, we don’t think we have the street-cred to do it. However, that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the full on fun that is Scrubs for Android, by renowned developer HeroCraft. The app makes the best of the item-finding genre, introducing a healthy amount of world-class humor, to boot. Whether or not you’re a fan of the series, Scrubs is a brilliantly engaging game, and one we couldn’t wait to get our hands on. Concept and Gameplay

As an official tie-in game for the television series, one might be wondering exactly what sort of gameplay Scrubs for Android has to offer. To put things simply, the gameplay is most similar to junk collecting—but in a good way. Players are tasked with helping the characters of the show clean up, arrange, or locate various items stacked-up throughout the hospital. Each new level comes with a witty text introduction, as well as some surrealist humor, as we had hoped. From there, the user must tap through the scene, attempting to locate various items given to them on a list. Occasionally, the user can also acquire inventory items, which are then kept for purposes that arise later in the game. All in all, it’s a classic concept applied to an unusual location: And it works splendidly.

We did worry a bit about the repetitiveness of the game, but the developers had our concerns satiated before we could hardly form them. Scrubs offers a multitude of in-app mini-games designed to alleviate the strain of repeatedly having to find hidden objects. This does a lot to take the edge off, and certainly keeps the ball rolling.

Design and Layout

Another mark in the app’s favor is its incredible graphics and animations. All of your favorite characters are here (we were slightly more than excited to see Dr. Cox) and they’ve all been cartoon-ized to an impressively detailed degree. Likewise, the levels themselves are brilliantly drawn, and offer quite a challenge, where item hunting is concerned. We also appreciated the rich dialog and jokes that are peppered throughout the apps. In essence, the app manages to be a successful tie-in without masking the original material, or on the other hand, overplaying it.

Overall Value

At the end of the day, Scrubs is every bit the experience we were hoping for, and then some. If you’re a fan of the series, you owe it to yourself to give the app a test-drive. If you’re not a fan of the series but of the item-hunting genre, there’s more than enough difficulty here to peak your interest, not to mention high-quality humor and gorgeous graphics. All in all, Scrubs is a solid five in our book, and earns a golden recommendation.
