This challenging game is sure to give your brain muscles a workout. So get ready for our Android app review of this seriously smart app.
Gameplay
Reviewed by Valerie Lauer
In Place the Box the rules are simple. Each level has a certain number of wooden boxes and a certain number of green slots. When all the boxes are in all the slots you’ve won the level. The app keeps track of your moves. The less moves you use the more impressed we’ll be.
You are only allowed to push the boxes. Under no circumstance will there be any pulling. You can only move one box at a time, so if multiple boxes are lined up that could be a problem. The walls are solid, there’s no trick to getting around them. And you move up, down, right and left, there’s no diagonal jumping.
The results are not so simple. Place the Box is seriously challenging. As in, we couldn’t make it past the third level. When the developers said this is the kind of app you’ll play for hours, they weren’t kidding. After trying again and again to make progress, we just weren’t getting anywhere. There is a second world to go do puzzles in if you get stuck, but it’s not much easier.
It’s possible that the folks at MxSoftwares made the intro levels like this for a reason, but it’s kind of discouraging. How about easing us into the logic behind the game first and then showing us what fools we really are? Just a suggestion.
Layout & Design
Place the Box
Graphically the Place the Box Android app is pretty basic. The work is two dimensional, cartoon style and very simple. The backgrounds are quite plain and the app doesn’t even have an actual homepage, just a list of numbered levels broken up into two worlds, and there are advertisements everywhere.
We are glad the app offers a zoom in and out function. It’s sure to come in handy on the larger boards we know are waiting for us later in the game, if only we could reach them.
Overall Value
This app’s saving grace is its awesome price tag. Place the Box is entirely free to download and play on your Android. So if you don’t mind dealing with ads and feel like having your brain turned to jelly due to strenuous mental game play, get this app. It’s super smart, very challenging and, hey, it’s free.
