Nothing in life is free, the age-old adage goes, and in most cases, we suppose that’s pretty true. However, Yo Free Samples, the Android client for the incredible site YoFreeSamples.com, has done a great deal to dissuade us of that notion. The app combines an awesome number of free samples, coupons, deals, and other assorted freebies under one roof, making it simple, quick, and efficient to pick-up great finds in your area, or on the Internet. Concept and Functionality
Yo Free Samples for Android
What Yo Free Samples offers is simple: The app combines a number of locations offering discounted goods, free items, money-saving coupons, etc. into a single application. At the first boot, users can opt to supply some basic information about themselves, and then receive eMail updates about these various offerings on a daily basis. However, if one wants to avoid an inbox inundation, the Android application offers up the same functionality without the need for an eMail client. Within the app, users navigate the menagerie of coupons and samples by simply scrolling through them with a finger. Tabbed navigation controls along the top split the content into categories, including: Sample, local, coupons, and pharmacy. However, there’s no included in-app browser, or other means of viewing these offers in-house. Rather, when a link is clicked it’s sent directly to your preferred browser. This is far from a deal breaker in our eyes, but we’d still like to see a little tighter integration with the Yo Free Samples site itself, especially as the desktop experience with the site is superb.
Design and Layout
We were also somewhat disappointed with the app’s design, which struck us as certainly lacking. In terms of eye-candy and aesthetics alone, Yo Free Samples could stand a real makeover, as the application felt dry, and unfilled. On a similar note, we also found ourselves seriously pining for additional searching options. There’s no query bar to peck through the available deals, nor is there a particularly detailed categories list. Rather, the tabs along the bottom are the only means of sorting the available samples. In our eyes, some speedy roll-style fields, a query bar, and an additional tab or two would go along way toward making Yo Free Samples an infinitely more pleasant experience.
Overall Value
That being said, Yo Free Samples is easily one of the best values we’ve seen on Android in a while. With mountains of free offerings, a never-ending supply of free coupons, and direct support for daily emails, the app has the potential to save you a lot of money. And considering there’s no initial overhead, the app itself is certainly a bargain. All in all, Yo Free Samples is easily worth a test drive.
