3D Texting Live Wallpaper: Written Android App Review
We’re fans of the Android platform. There’s just something about being able to do what we like with our phone, when we like it, that gets our goat. One of the things we’re most proud of with the OS is its interactive wallpapers, a functionality the iPhone is miles away from, if it ever arrives. Case in point, meet 3D Texting Live Wallpaper, by developer MiaBella. The app is a brilliant way to send common text messages from your home screen, and with an intuitive interface to boot. For our full thoughts on this killer wallpaper, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
3D Texting Live Wallpaper
If you’re like us, you likely send about five different text messages on a regular basis. These are simple things, like “On my way!” or “How are you?” Stock phrases that you’re likely to utter about fifteen times a day. 3D Texting Live Wallpaper wants to alleviate this stress by making it easier to send these messages in a jiffy. The app does this by using a blank spot on your home screen. If you hadn’t noticed by now, the app is in fact a live wallpaper, and neither an app nor a widget. More on this in a bit, but it’s rather interesting how 3D Texting Live Wallpaper works. The wallpaper presents the user with a fully navigable rotating orb, an orb that’s studded with the aforementioned messages. The user can double tap any of these, and then double tap another selection on another orb to choose their preferred contact. Once this is done, a quick confirmation hauls up the message, and then hucks it out onto the airwaves, delivering it to your recipient. It’s smooth, functional, and rather gorgeous. We especially liked the option to create our own custom messages, as well as edit just about every setting imaginable.
Design and Graphics
As stated, the design of the wallpaper itself is rather gorgeous. However, if you don’t appreciate the color scheme, 3D Texting Live Wallpaper is more than happy to let you change things around. Likewise, though the stock phrases are typically spot-on, it’s a cinch to make your own messages. We do wonder why the app is a wallpaper, though, as it still requires a blank spot on the home screen. Rather, we would have liked to see it work as a standalone widget, especially as the orb dynamic is more than enough to warrant a full app. It’s brilliant, smooth, and somewhat awkward, thanks to the need for an entirely blank spot on the home.
Overall Value
Additionally, we feel the $4.99 price tag is somewhat high for what we’d be willing to pay. However, it’s certainly functional, and if this kind of immediate and quick functionality sounds like a deal maker, you’ll certainly get your money’s worth. Though, if you’re unwilling to fork over five dollars, there are easily a dozen other widgets in the Android Market that could accomplish the same thing: Though with certainly less grace or gorgeousness.
