Big Business: Written and Video Android App Review
We’ll be honest here: We absolutely love any sort of Tycoon-esque game, or any title that has us building buildings, upgrading units, and generally putting up lights where none were before. As such, we’re gobsmacked to have discovered Big Business, by Game Insight. The app fills every one of our construction needs, allowing us to live a new life as a business mogul—and all from the comfort of our own phone! Best of all, the title is completely free, in both a pricing and advertising sense. Combining killer graphics, fast-paced gameplay, and incredible complexity, Big Business is the ideal companion for any fan of the genre. For our full thoughts on this Tycoon-style game for the Android platform, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Gameplay
As mentioned, Big Business largely centers around your own natural talent as a business mogul and construction fanatic. The game has you starting small with only a basic farm and a few units, before allowing you to progress from there in a flurry. We greatly appreciated the walkthrough style tutorial, as well, which got us on our feet in no time. Otherwise, the game is very much like any other Tycoon title you’ve played recently. Resources are farmed from collection units, which can then be turned into additional materials for resale. This money can then be used to buy new buildings, which in turn yield bigger profits and, curiously enough, more fun. Along the way, there are easily one hundred things to micromanage, including population rates and happiness, as well as building upgrades. Big Business also gives you plenty of quests and collections to complete, should you ever get bored—though we think that’s not very likely. All in all, it’s a solid entry into the genre, and though it doesn’t necessarily rewrite the book, it still kept us on our toes.
Design and Graphics

Big Business for Android
One of the coolest things about Big Business is its incredible graphics: When units are ordered to perform an action, you can literally watch them doing it down on the ground. This never got old, though we only wish we could have zoomed in closer to see it. The game never quite let us put our nose in it, but we did appreciate the pinch-to-zoom. We’ll spare you a discussion about depth and complexity (the game has both in spades) to instead mention the lack of OpenFeint integration. We’d love to earn some achievements for our efforts, and we hope the service is coming in a future update.
Overall Value
At the end of the day, Big Business is completely free, making it one heck of a bargain. Likewise, there are no adverts whatsoever, and though you could purchase in-game currency, the game doesn’t make it essential. All in all, it’s an entry that’s sure to please fans of the genre, and even just the casual Android gamer. Overall, we give the app four stars and a hearty recommendation.
