Cartoon Wars: Written Android App Review
If you’re an Android Apps Review regular you know we’ve had pretty good luck reviewing apps from Gamevil in the past. One of our all-time favorites was Cartoon Wars: Gunner+, so we were stoked when a new Cartoon Wars title came across our desks. This app combines the cool features we loved about Gunner+ with a tower defense style gameplay. And we dig it.

In Cartoon Wars it’s your job to create troops and send them out into the field. Like that other title, the troops are stick figures, simple, yet effective warriors battling to keep your castle safe. As you play you’ll collect gold and stones to upgrade your artillery. There’s an extensive upgrade system, we can’t imagine playing long enough to get it all. If you’re a completist, you may be tempted to buy gold, but don’t worry. You can always play levels and earn more! That’s half the fun of the game.
The levels get progressively harder as you play, so you’re going to want to upgrade your gold take, mana output and other relevant items in addition to unlocking more fighters. The result of all this upgrading and war? It’s a dang good game. We were totally hooked and really didn’t want to stop playing but knew it was time to tell you what we thought, so it was reluctantly abandoned.
If you choose this app can store multiple game histories, a nice touch. There’s also a news board and a community aspect to the app that just didn’t seem to be up and running yet.

Layout & Design
What can we say, there’s something insanely appealing about little stick figures waging war. The app style is straightforward but well executed. Stylistically we appreciate the intentional simplicity of Cartoon Wars. The menus could be a bit clearer, but it’s a minimal concern.
For navigation, we definitely suggest turning off the tilt to see feature in the app config menu. There are several banners suggesting you do this in the app itself, so we wonder why Gamevil made it the default set up. Trust us, it’s annoying, and tap to see is much easier to manage.
Overall Value
Like so many awesome Gamevil titles, Cartoon Wars is entirely free. As we mentioned, you may be tempted to pick up some extra gold to make the game go faster, but if you’re looking for a game that’s a ton of fun and doesn’t have to cost a fortune, a little patience goes a long way. Cartoon Wars is a safe bet. We highly recommend it.
