Scan: Written Android App Review

We’re just going to come right out and say it: Scan by the developer of the same name is our favorite QR reader on the Android platform, barre none. We like it for a number of reasons, which we’ll get to in just a second, but we also adore the app and its company for all the things they’re doing to advance QR codes as a new way of life. We dig it to the umpteenth degree, and if you’re curious at all to learn more about it, stick around: Below you’ll find our full review of Scan, as our thoughts on the ultimate potential this little, unassuming app contains. All of that starting below:

Concept and Functionality

Scan for Android

If you’re still with us, we likely know what you’re thinking: Sure, Scan is intuitive, easy to use, and free, but it’s still just a QR code reader! And for the most part, you’d be right! Scan works in a very intuitive way that makes it accessible to almost anyone. Pull your Android phone out of your pocket, point it at a QR code, and away the app goes. In fact, you don’t even have to wait for the app to scan the code. Simply align the item within the app’s frames, and Scan does the rest. However, the real kicker here is the app’s nearly unlimited potential. Let us explain.

When you scan a code with Scan, it automatically loads the content. This may seem like a small feature, but it’s monumental. The developers claim it’s like clicking a real life object for digital content, and we couldn’t agree more. It’s an unbelievable experience to line up a QR code, and then immediately receive the items waiting within it. This means we can learn more about our coffee cup, snap a quick video from a movie poster, or whatever! It’s a brave new, clickable world out there with Scan.

Design and Interface

One of the other aspects we love about Scan is its incredible interface. The app, as mentioned, is by far the simplest QR reader we have ever seen. We like the fact that our input is minimized, while the app does all the reading. Furthermore, we liked the history tab, which keeps a running look at all the QR codes we’ve scanned recently. This means that, at any point in time, we can return to the items we wanted to take a look at. This makes reviewing our favorites, and reading the forgotten ones, so much easier.

Overall Value

We won’t beat around the bush. If you own a smartphone, you owe it to yourself to get Scan. The app is free in the Android Market, is incredibly simple to use, and can drastically improve your relationship with the QR and digital world. If you don’t believe us, we dare you to try it out for a week. Scan all the codes, and see how much you can learn in only seven days.

Android Apps Review Details: Scan is free. This app requires Android 2.1.+ and up. You may download Scan from the Android Market. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
