More importantly, do you have some kind of plan in place should a zombie apocalypse suddenly appear at your door? If not, then we highly suggest you give ZDAY Survival Simulator by developer Mongadillo a test drive. The app’s brilliant (and occasionally poignant) choose-your-own-adventure style gameplay is a force to be reckoned with, and if you’re looking for yet another app to tickle your Walking Dead bone, you can wait no longer. Concept and Gameplay
If you’re looking for a run-and-gun zombie smashing shoot-em-up on the Android platform, you won’t find it here with ZDAY Survival Simulator. The game shirks all that drab blasting action for a more pithy style of choose-your-own adventure story-telling. At the start of the game, you must make basic decisions, like what to bring with you, what weapon to use, and even who to rescue. Do you attack the zombies at your front door or sneak out the back? Do you help out your neighbor in return for a cooler weapon, or do you seek shelter quickly? All of these decisions add up to a survivability probability (we’re trying to coin that) which is the ultimate point of the game. Whether you survive or die, the app ends the game with a rating informing you just how likely it is you’ll survive a zombie doomsday. The game keeps a running tab on how many zombies you kill, how many friends you save, and how many cool weapons you obtain. All of this adds up to the ending you deserve: Whether you think you deserve said ending or not! It’s a bushel of fun, and can be quite entertaining at times!
Design and Graphics
Even better, though, the game’s graphics have been engineered by a renowned DC comic artist. As such, they’ve got a dark and gritty comic appeal that we can’t get enough of. The writing is usually good, though at times we did find the choose-your-own-adventure tactics a bit tedious. There are only so many times we can play through the same-as gameplay before we lose interest. Still, though we doubt you’ll spend hours and hours with ZDAY Survival Simulator, we still think you can get a few interesting results out of it. And at the worst, you’ll just be enjoying some killer artwork.
Overall Value
All things considered, we still feel ZDAY Survival Simulator is slightly too expensive, clocking in at $1.99 in the Android Market. And though that might be a dollar too high for our tastes, you’ll still get your money’s worth. The app is engaging, unique, and above all else, offers a unique twist on zombie mashing.
