Photon: Written Android App Review

Have you heard of the hit Android game, Photon? This thrilling title, released from Aussie studio, BiFrost, has been very popular on the Google Play store. Is it worth checking out? Read on!

Features
Imagine a retro-style like, yet futuristic appearing game. Add simplicity and strategy, and you’ve got yourself a game that will keep you preoccupied for hours. When the app initially loads you are prompted with a tutorial that advises you how to play the game. This tutorial will come up every single time you play. You can then choose to play in “Classic” mode or “Arcade” mode. However, if you choose to play in the “Arcade” mode, you get 10 free plays/tries and then you have to purchase the additional plays/tries.

The main premise of the game is to match at least 3 same colored circles in order to cancel them out. You can match more than three of the same colored spheres is possible. You do not want to max out your screen with circles or the game ends. So, basically your goal is to keep your screen clear of circles as much as possible. It sounds simple, but since each play is at random, finding a way to keep the circles at bay can be challenging at times. There are special “spawn” discs that when activated correctly will have a bunch of same colored spheres appear on your screen which you can either use to your advantage or could hurt you, especially if your screen is almost filled already. At the end of each game, your score and level will be shown which will indicate how far you managed to upgrade.

On a side note, this app is also available on iTunes for those preferring to play it on the iOS.

Graphical Layout and Sounds

Photon App Review

The overall layout of the game is an eye-catching, and neon color schemed game. With a main black background, the multicolored spheres are easy to spot and differentiate from each other. The layout and navigation of the game is simple and easy for the player to figure out where to go and how to play. Loading time is quick and there are no signs of lagging between screen changes. The sound effects are spot on, especially when a successful match has been made between the same colored spheres.

Value

This app features a fun and an engaging game, and the fact that it is being offered for free on Android devices is a huge bonus. Not every game will be the same, so strategizing and matching will be easy and yet challenging sometimes. This app will appeal to all age groups and can provide countless hours of entertainment. Totally recommended!
