When Icy Joe first loads, the user is prompted with a main menu showing different unlocked levels, level difficulty functions (easy, cold, and ice cold), and main functions. Each main function is shown as an icon such as: a turning wheel function for “settings”, a numbered ice block icon for “achievement levels”, a upload icon for “social networking, and a question mark icon for “help/tutorial”.
The basic gist of the game is that the user is taking on the role of an Eskimo (also known as “Icy Joe” who needs to break his way to the surface by jumping, picking at ice blocks, and attacking threats such as polar bears and penguins to get back to his warm fire that is his home. All along the way he can collect coins and obtain bigger ice blocks that can be used to throw at enemy threats before they get to you first. The user can tilt their device to move Icy Joe from left to right, and tap on the right hand corner to pick at upper ice blocks and jump, and tap on the left hand corner to attack enemy threats with their ice pick or with the big ice blocks they obtain on the way. The key is maintaining good balance, not falling to lower ice levels, and not getting attacked by enemy threats first.

Honestly, the graphics and animations in Icy Joe is what really make it stand out. It is cute, amusing, and overall really well done. The layout is fantastic. Each item is displayed as an icon and additional sub-functions can be easily accessible through each main icon picture. Color schemes are bright, but not distracting, and background images serve the perfect purpose of being attractive and yet still functional within actual game play.
