When it comes to genres we like, nothing turns our crank more than a good old puzzling action game. You know, the sort where you have to think but still scramble like it’s a 1984 arcade game. Those are the sort of Android titles that really get our goat, which is why we’re madly in love with Plopp, by developer games2be. The app is a near perfect combination of action, lights, sound, and puzzling, creating an atmosphere and game concept that’s simply addictive. Concept and Gameplay

It’s not often that we get to say this, so we’re going to do it now with particular relish: Plopp offers up one of the first truly original game concepts we’ve seen on the Android platform in we don’t know how long. The idea is simple: You use a single finger to pop the Plopp, which are spinning, growing circles. As they grow, they become worth more and more points. However if two Plopp touch each other, you’ll lose a life or points depending on the game mode. Popping a Plopp on the other hand, sends out a shockwave that will pop all the other Plopp in the area. It’s a brilliant idea that has the player constantly trying to leverage high-earning Plopp with staying alive.

Best of all, the app comes with a couple different game modes. You’ll get straight survival which tests your endurance mettle. There’s also a timed mode, as well as a 20 Plopp model which allows you to only click 20 times. We liked this one a lot. And with several different high scores, including highest streak and highest number of points, there’s a lot of arcade-style fun to love here with Plopp.

Design and Graphics

Best of all, Plopp looks absolutely gorgeous on the Android platform. The colors are vibrant, the five different kinds of Plopp are easily recognizable, and the soundtracks are varied and energizing. We also liked how smooth the shockwave animations are. At times, you really feel like you’re playing a piece of art, rather than a game. With a wide variety of backgrounds that flitter past, huge neon bursts, and ever-changing Plopp, it’s really quite an engaging experience.

Overall Value

Best of all, Plopp will only set you back a whopping $1.25—a bargain no matter how you slice it! So, if you’ve been looking for a new puzzler to keep you busy during your downtime, there’s no other app we’d suggest than Plopp. It’s gorgeous, complex, difficult, and endlessly fun. As such, there’s no reason not to go, especially with the given price of just over a dollar. All in all, Plopp comes recommended.
