Mysteryville 2: Written Android App Review
If you missed our review of the last Mysteryville installment, put out by one of our favorite developers Nevosoft, then you likely also missed our general gist about the genre: It goes something like this—We really really love object hunting games. As such, we’re tickled pink to be looking at Mysteryville 2 today, which continues the Where’s Waldo? on steroids style action of the first title, bringing us even more giddy levels and plot twists to wind our way through. And with graphics that are as good as always, there’s really nothing to lose by continuing on down the break, and peeping the rest of our review.
You can also find Mysteryville 2 on Amazon. So without further ado, let’s get to it!
Concept and Gameplay
Mysteryville 2 for Android
As stated, Mysteryville 2 falls very squarely into that most coveted of genres, the object hunting slash item finding application. The basic idea is simple: You play the same character as the first game—a wily reporter looking for clues to a strange town’s problems—and it’s up to you to find all of the hidden objects that the rest of the cast peg you with. In other words, you’ll be careening about town finding items to complete quests, unlock clues, and generally move the plot along. The plot, as we’ve come to expect from Nevosoft, is ragingly good, it’s worth noting. It’s full of small complexities and subtle turns that will have you working desperately to keep up. We like that sort of gameplay, and all of the same mechanics that we liked from the first title are here in spades again. For instance, you’ve still got the ticking timer and clicking deductions. As well, you’ll find the same helping mechanic for when the items are too hard. And with a wealth of new, plot-driven mini-games to work through, there’s simply no reason in the world to snub your nose at the app.
Design and Graphics
Best of all, like its predecessor before it, Mysteryville 2 is absolutely gorgeous on our Android phone. We love the rich character animations, as well as the varied puzzles. They range from being blatantly easy to sometimes really quite difficult. Either way, you’ll still get incredible artwork, a precision interface, and writing that—though sometimes cheesy—makes you glad to be a part of the world created here. And really that’s what these genre apps are really all about: Helping you lose yourself in escapism.
Overall Value
At the end of the day, Mysteryville 2 is a simply brilliant addition to the genre on the Android platform. It’s got all the hallmarks we’re after, as well as a dirt cheap free price tag. Yes, you can fiddle about with the app for free before deciding to commit to the $2.99 option. But even that is a bargain price for this much action. All in all, Mysteryville 2 easily comes recommended, and if you’re a fan of the category, you’ll fall in love all over again.
