Candy Island: Written and Video Android App Review
Concept and Gameplay

Candy Island! for Android
As stated, Candy Island falls very squarely into the category of a micromanagement arcade game—however, it’s got a much cuter feel than most! You’ll still get to enjoy all the same Sim City style gameplay you love from the genre, but instead of building monuments to human engineering, you’ll instead by producing candy factories to sell at your shop. As you produce more and gain more experience (including level ups) you’ll unlock new factories to build, new sweets to sell, and new quests to accomplish. We particularly liked the quests, which have you providing specific sweets to specific patrons. It’s a cool mix, as you’ll have to lock down part of your inventory to meet the needs of these multimillionaire vagrants. We also really loved the complexity of the system: You’ll need to use the space you have wisely to advance your sweet-producing empire, including decorating your shop, producing enough fuel, and a multitude of other time-based things that require your attention. It may sound complicated (it is) but we have to admit: We like every minute of it from top to bottom!
Design and Graphics
We have to warn you, though: Candy Island is decidedly on the cute end of things, so if you’re allergic to bright graphics and vivid animations, we suggest you stay away. In fact, this isn’t really a game you could play at the footy match without looking girly, but in our eyes, every bit of it is still well-designed. We liked the character animations, as well as the NPCs that just wander around. The various quest characters are also nicely done, and on the whole, the complexity offered here is more than enough to make up for any hurt egos on our end.
Overall Value
Candy Island uses the famous freemium model that we’ve been seeing with a lot of titles in the genre. We don’t mind though, as so far we have yet to shell out any actual cash in return for in-game glory. We suspect you might reach this point eventually, but for at least the first few hours of gameplay—more than enough to have some fun—you’ll still find Candy Island to be a free, and perfect bargain.
