As such, may we humbly introduce you to one of the quirkiest, most fun, and freshest Android gaming titles to appear in a long time: Run Fatty Run by developer Disparity Games offers a refreshing concept, a whole lot of snark, and more than enough running to keep us engaged. Concept and Gameplay
Run Fatty Run for Android
The idea behind Run Fatty Run is really quite simple, though we might not call it “normal,” per say. The idea is that, in some unnamed part of the world, the government has decided to fix the obesity problem once and for all. Their method of doing so? Live tiger attacks for those not quick enough to run away. In the game, you play as the morbidly obese man Bert, who must run from just such a tiger. To run, you simply tap the screen at the far end of the level. The quicker you tap, the faster Bert runs away from the tiger. These running sprints are punctuated by intervals where the tiger will eat a slightly less speedy sod behind you. Once that’s done, it’s back to running!
The game does a lot to add some spice, however: For instance, you’ll acquire various powerups and specials as you go along, all of which add something new and interesting to the mix. You’ll also get to see Bert lose some weight—it’s like leveling up in most games, though slightly cooler to watch. All in all, Run Fatty Run is a solid title with a funny concept under the bonnet. In fact, the humour that’s spread around the game is what makes it so endearing in our eyes.
Design and Graphics
Additionally, the game’s graphics and design are pretty slick, too! The 3D graphics are simply superb, and some of the absolute best that we’ve ever seen on the Android platform. Furthermore, the level design is ace, though we did find the pacing of new additions somewhat slow at times. Aside from this, the controls take only a matter of seconds to learn, making it an easy app to ease into. And as mentioned, the intertextual humour (not to mention the latent bits imbedded in the concept) make the app a real charmer for those that are hip to its jive.
Overall Value
At the end of the day, you really can’t go wrong with Run Fatty Run. It’s cheap at only a dollar in the Play Store, it comes with a lot of action and levels, and it’s one of the funniest games we’ve played all year. With that in mind, Run Fatty Run earns a solid recommendation from us, especially for those that like classic arcade games like Psychonauts. Grab this one now, as it’s truly a keeper.
