Sure, Halloween may have come and gone, but that hardly means you have to stop fantasizing about zombies, monsters, goblins and ghoul! In fact, if you’ve been looking for a great new way to keep the spirit of the season alive, we may have just the app to tide you over: It’s called Rotten Friends and its by developer HellGames. No, it’s not some sort of twisted social media network. Rather, it’s a novelty photo app that easily turns pictures of your friends into ghost-filled examples of primal horror. Concept and Functionality

We see a whole lot of novelty photo apps on the iPhone and iPad, but to be honest, they’re much rarer on the Android platform. We’re not sure why this is, but at the very least, it means quality productions are somewhat hard to come by. This makes Rotten Friends a particularly good application. Why?

Simply put, it works! It works well, at that, and it produces some photos that are legitimately hilarious and scary. The app’s success is due to its simple formula: Snap a photo or load one from your gallery, and then use the sliding drawer of utilities and graphics to drag elements directly on top of your media. From here, you can twist, edit, scale, rotate, or otherwise change those graphics until they perfectly match the background on which you’re working. The app supplies you with a number of cool tools, as well as a plethora of gorgeous graphics. Overall, this adds up to some seriously good fun.

Design and Interface

Now, it’s one thing to offer a whole roster of excellent features. However, it’s another thing entirely to present them in such a way that’s equally as impressive. Thankfully, that’s exactly what Rotten Friends have done. The app uses a side-bar style tool interface as well as a sliding drawer to get the job done. This makes everything incredibly ergonomic, and with only a few drags of a finger and a tad bit of design knowledge, you can quite easily crank out some killer, Photoshop-looking monsters. We like the ability to edit nodes on our graphics, as well, which makes the entire process simpler.

Overall Value

The only real downside to the app? It happens to be rather expensive, clocking in at four bucks in the Google Play Store. This is a lot to ask for any Android app, but though it’s pricy, you will get your money’s worth. At the end of the day, it’s perhaps one of the single best novelty photo apps out there, and for that, we’re happy to pay a premium.
