Aces Gin Rummy: Written Android Game Review
Sure, blasting around intricate racetracks in super fast cars is a great way to pass the time. Or maybe you enjoy a good puzzle game every now and then. However, sometimes a classic card game is all you need for a bit of entertainment.
Aces Gin Rummy, developed by Concrete Software, brings Gin Rummy to your favorite Android device. Even if you’ve never played it before, this is one card game you’ll learn to love in no time at all!
Concept and Gameplay:

The basic object of the game is to match your cards into sets and runs into get rid of unmatched cards. Sets and runs are called Melds and unmatched cards are called Deadwood. I won’t go into exact detail as to how to play the game, but I will mention that there’s a very complex and handy “How to Play” guide included within the game. Even if you’re familiar with how to play, sometimes it’s best to check out the guide just so you can refresh your memory.
The main screen of the game is where you can either start a new game or resume a game that’s already in progress. This is where you can also access the game guide and settings menu. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with the game’s graphics, music, and sound effects. They really enhance the gameplay experience.
Actual gameplay is very smooth and fluid, which is definitely a necessary thing in any virtual card game. You won’t find cheesy animations or distracting fluff. Just a simple and straightforward game of Gin Rummy that’s fun to play.

One of my favorite features of Aces Gin Rummy is the unique cast of characters you can play against. Keeping in tune with the vintage design of the game, you can play against a classy beaver dressed to the nines or a skunk with more style than Eleanor herself. Or, if you’re feeling a little more modern, you can even face a robot. In all, there’s a cast of 11 opponents you can challenge.
For those who are just starting out or invite a good challenge, there are various difficulty levels you can select from the settings menu. Naturally it’s wise to start on the lowest difficulty level, especially when trying a new game. As I mentioned earlier, it’s not difficult to learn the basic concept of Gin Rummy enough to play proficiently, so you’ll be playing on the highest difficulty level in no time.
Lastly, Aces Gin Rummy features traditional game scoring. If you want to play a quick game while waiting for your train or flight, you can set the score to 100. However, for those who are looking for a longer game, the maximum score can be set as high as 300.
