Here at the Android Apps Review, we like a number of the finer things in life: Chief among these—or at least very high up—are puzzle games for the Android platform. We love anything that challenges our mental muscles, especially if it has us frustrated for a while, and then wonderfully vindicated. With that in mind, we’re pleased to bring you a review today of a new game called Resope! by developer Moaisoft Games that offers a world of challenging puzzling, as well as quite a bit of blasting. Concept and Gameplay

The basic idea behind Resope! looks something like this: You’re demolishing an entire skyscraper, however, you’ve accidentally left a full load of workers inside the building. Bollocks, we know. Now, it’s up to you to blast them all out to safety—with all due speed—without harming any of them.

It’s a tall order, and you’ll need to do so using a variety of blasting blocks and specials. This essentially amounts to a sort of Tetris-in-reverse style gameplay. As you blast out blocks by tapping them, you’ll need to ensure the spreading flames don’t hit your workers. You’ll also want to line up the carnage so that it returns higher combos. To this end, you’ll need to always be thinking about the solid blocks that won’t be burnt up, as well as the single-shot numbers laying about. All to get more points, of course. As you progress, stakes will be higher, the game intensifies, and more fun is had. All in all, it’s a blast of an idea (pun intended) and we can’t get enough of it.

Graphics and Design

At first, we have to admit, we weren’t overwhelmed by the look of Resope! It’s got a very pixelated look to it that’s a bit more quirky than it is retro. However, the more we dug into the gameplay of the app, the more we stopped noticing our niggles and started enjoying the vibe. Resope! has a certain appeal that grows on you over time, and the end results are actually quite pleasant. Sure, it’s blocky. Is it meant to be? Absolutely! And at the end of the day, you’ll be too focused on the gameplay to care all that much.

Overall Value

We should also mention that Resope! is completely free to play. Sure, there are in-game advertisements and the amount of included levels is pretty sparse right now. But if you’re looking for a brain-bending puzzler to have a go at, we honestly can’t recommend anything higher than Resope! at the moment. It’s a solid entry into the genre, and a game that’s easily worth a look.
