Android App Review by AndroidAppsReview.com

Over the years, we’ve had more than our fair chance to put our grubby mittens on some note taking applications. With that in mind, we’ve got quite a good handle on what makes a good note-making title, as well as what doesn’t. We mention this only because our subject of the day, Tree Note, happens to be a new entry into the field. It’s a great title, though, and if you’re looking for a streamlined, simplistic way to stay on top of your stacks, it’s a brilliant way to do so. For our full review of this pen-oriented app for Android, you need only to slide on down below the break!

Concept and Functionality

The idea behind Tree Note is simple—or, to phrase it more grammatically, simplicity is the core concept. You see, the application takes what is typically a very bloated experience in other applications (the process of creating, tagging, and viewing notes) and attempts to bring it all back down to earth. To begin with, you’ll not find any complex notebook illustrations or animations. Just a tree of notes—Hey!—to choose from, sorted by hierarchy.

You create this very important hierarchy when you create your notes. You’ll add tags and values to each entry, that way the application knows exactly how to sort your items. The tags make it a cinch to find an item you’ve lost, while the order makes it a snap to view the totality of all your information, directly from the dashboard. You can also include images and drawings at your disposal, which is a nice way to compliment the text entires. With a long-press, you can also favorite, archive, copy, or paste a note. All in all, it’s quick, efficient, and unbelievably snappy.

Design and Interface

Overall, the simplicity in ideology bleeds through into the design. The overall appeal of the application is in its minimalist interface, which makes any process a seconds long procedure. Beyond this, we also greatly enjoyed the ability to save a backup of our notes to another location on the phone. However, we’d like to see more integration: A DropBox api inclusion would be fantastic, for instance. Additionally, we sometimes found the tree a bit hard to read, as the same color scheme is used for all even and odd entries. This makes it somewhat difficult to differentiate items on occasion.

Overall Value

However, we can hardly complain too much, considering the application is completely free. With that in mind, Tree Note is a brilliant note taking app for Android, one that offers a more refined and simplified means of creating items than we’ve seen before. It comes with just the right amount of features and capabilities for those with a need, and will easily find a home on your Android device.
