Viber is a free app available for Android users that allows users of the app to talk and text with each other for absolutely free.
There are plenty of calling and texting apps available to choose from, but high quality ones that are also free are only a dime a dozen. Viber provides a useful service that is also very easy to use and set up. However, as with most apps even good ones have their drawbacks. Viber requires users to use their existing phone numbers in order to make and receive phone calls and texts. Thus, this means that it will not work on tablets or other devices that are not registered with a phone number.
