It’s no small secret around the office that we happen to love poker quite a bit. We enjoy just about any rule variation you can think of, and the higher the stakes the better. This is why we’re tickled pink to bring along a full review of Video Poker Duel, Silver Creek Entertainment, for Android today. The app is a phenomenal way to scratch the betting itch without losing your house. Oh, and it also happens to be pretty fun, too. Concept and Gameplay
Video Poker Duel for Android
In Video Poker Duel you’ll be playing with a core “Jacks or Better” style of gameplay. This means that you’ll get two draws, keeping cards on the first. On the second draw, what you get is what you get, and you’ll need a pair of jacks or better to score. Obviously, the normal levels of poker strategy are involved here, though it’s certainly not the most thinking-heavy variant we’ve ever played.
But what it lacks in white-knuckled fury it easily makes up for in addictive nature. Video Poker Duel is by far the simplest poker game we’ve ever played on mobile, a fact that’s made easier by the ease of slapping that betting button in the corner. We played several rounds before we realized we’d done it—the mark of a true poker game, to be sure.
The bets we thought about paid off, and when we were stupid, they didn’t. In other words, it’s a rock solid game, and one that aids your gambling needs like none other. If you’re not careful, you could easily waste a lot more time here than intended: And that hardly feels like a waste to us!
Design and Graphics
We’ve seen a lot of gambling applications that, to put it plainly, left us wanting in the design department. Thankfully, this doesn’t seem to be the case with Video Poker Duel. The application is very well-designed, offering cheesy, Casino-ready sound effects and a whole lot of flashing lights.
If you’re into that kind of aesthetic, you’ll easily find yourself at home here. Likewise, the gameplay we were talking about earlier just could not be simpler. In a lot of ways, it’s like playing a brainier version of a slot machine. And with online multiplayer included (in sort of a dance-off point grab, we suppose) it’s a wonderful mixture.
Overall Value
Best of all, Video Poker Duel is completely free. Yes, you won’t have to pay a dime to shoot your afternoon plans in the foot. If you want, you can purchase additional chips in-game for a small fee, but we hardly found a need to. All in all, this makes Video Poker Duel a great deal, and an even better game.
