Star Girl: Beauty Queen
Android App Review by AndroidAppsReview.com

It’s been a long, long while since we last had a chance to parade through Star Girl: Beauty Queen’s neck of the woods, but with a new edition out, it appears that we are once again heading to its very pink, highly fashionable, and ever social lands.

If you’ve enjoyed the previous version’s gameplay and want a bit more—or want to sample its fashion-oriented fun-fest for the first time—then you’ll be well-pleased with what Star Girl, from Animoca, has to offer. For more information, as well as our whole review, you need only to slide on down below the break. Starting with:

Concept and Gameplay

In all honesty, the gameplay behind Star Girl is actually a lot more complex than you might initially think. Though, it can be boiled down to a few basic experiences. To begin with, you’ll be gathering clothing and other items to be used in competitions.

These competitions involve you duking it out against other pageantry contestants for the prize of “Most Beautiful,” or a similar title. These competitions often come with specific themes, which means you’ll need to try to match the specifications.

Outside of this, you’ll be able to engage in a few other activities, all of them girly to the highest and studded with social interaction. You and your friends can compete for the hearts of famous lads, using a very entertaining lightning strike effect.

You can also go on date simulations, in which you’ll need to correctly place items, orders and gestures to win your own prince charming. All of this slammed together, in addition to the other, smaller features that Star Girl is offering, create a wealth of gameplay that will appeal to almost any fan of the series.

Design and Graphics

Star Girl is a very loud application, at least in terms of its design. You’ll see a whole lot of bright colors, even more hues of pink, and enough pizazz to please any fan. Though, none of this is to say that the app is poorly designed. In fact, it’s perhaps one of the better ones that we’ve seen.

So, we’ll throw this out for good measure: Beware the in-app purchase, as it’s very easy to spend real money on in-game cash, or diamonds. Hopefully this wont’ be a problem for the older user, but for young children, it’s something a wary parent should keep an eye on.

Overall Value

At the end of the day, it’s quite hard to knock Star Girl for its value. As a free app, it offers a ton of content and a lot of polish, both of which are guaranteed to please the intended audience. However, we do have our concerns.

Most notably, is it really the best idea to give your child a game that reinforces the need to find fulfillment solely in romance and clothing? Or worse, one that emphasizes exterior appearance and superficial actions over meaningful learning?

So while we may struggle with this just a bit, we also know full well that little girls, and not so little girls, just love to play dress up and that beauty pagents are enormously popular so who are we to say? All that aside, one thing we can certainly say is that Star Girl: Beauty Queen is fine entertainment and will be well-enjoyed by anyone with a hankering for a fashion-oriented game.
