Vocabul Jumble (Word Jumble)

It’s not often that we get to do this sort of review on the Android platform: More properly, it’s not that frequent that we take a look at an application aimed at kids.
Today’s entry into the field, Vocabul Jumble, from JKL Technologies, is a unique word shuffling title designed to strengthen word recognition, enhance vocabulary, and improve reading skills.
It’s an entertaining mixture, and with two modes of gameplay, a wealth of words, and more than enough levels to keep any kid going, it’s quite a bargain. For our full review, you need only to look down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
The core idea behind Vocabul Jumble is simple: Within each level, a word is presented in its scrambled form.
The letters must then be arranged in the proper order to form a whole vocabulary word. Upon completion, the level is passed, points are given (for speed and accuracy) , and the next word is served up piping hot.
This continues until all of the levels have been mastered, and the child has—presumably—become an incredibly efficient spelling master.
Vocabul Jumble
It’s an extremely solid concept, and one that is guaranteed to improve cognitive reasoning in regards to spelling. Furthermore, the fact that Vocabul Jumble comes with two operative modes is quite a boon.
There’s the classic function, which goes word-by-word, as well as the time trial setting. This provides a number of different scrambled words that need solving under a ticking limit.
The quicker the puzzle is solved, the more points are awarded. In a lot of ways, it’s the same gameplay as before, but with enough of a twist to make it interesting.
All in all, Vocabul Jumble is a fine-tuned machine that ticks along quite well. We have no doubt that its core gameplay concept would hold the attention of any child.
Design and Graphics
When it comes to applications for kids, we tend to focus on the graphics and presentation more than with other genres. This is because, to keep a child entertained, the entire package needs to be spotless.
In Vocabul Jumble’s case, this is most certainly applicable. The graphics are decent, though perhaps not the best that we have ever seen. It’s certainly not as cutesy or cartoon-oriented as we usually prefer.
That being said the controls are certainly simple enough and the words seem to be at a reasonable level of challenge for any child. We have a feeling, though, that older players might become bored rather quickly.
Overall Value
And, of course, any title that’s free is excellent in our book! Vocabul Jumble is sans prix in the Google Play Store, making it an ideal candidate for any concerned parent on a budget. Is it the best, most educational application on the Android platform we’ve ever seen? No, though it’s hardly the worst.
All in all, Vocabul Jumble is solid through and through. It will provide many hours of entertaining fun for a child of the appropriate age.
