Magic Temple
Android Game Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
If you’ve known us long, then you’re aware of the fact that we go absolutely bonkers for arcade games. We simply love them.
If you give us a simple concept and ample enough time to rack up a high score, we will spend several happy hours ignoring work to do exactly that.
This is why we quite like Magic Temple, a gorgeous new matching game for the Android platform. It’s not a perfect match for our needs, but when you get down to it, it’s still a whole lot of fun.
For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
In a lot of ways, Magic Temple bears a lot of resemblance to other crystal matching games to come before it.
However, this is no cheap Bejeweled rip-off, and you’ll very quickly find that out.
In fact, the concept involved here is based more on button mashing than it is quick thinking and a flick of the finger. It also relies heavily on its powerups.
The game has you matching up like-minded pieces, based on air, water, and fire.
You match two small elements to form a middle element. A mid can be matched with another to form a crystal. Match two crystals and they both disappear from the board, leaving behind a specific effect.
With ice, this is a temporary slowdown. With fire, a mild score boost. And earth, a regenerative effect for other tiles. We liked this, especially as it rewards you for playing the game.
To best your high score and to unlock the Temple Aura (big-A score mode, basically) you’ll need to strike consecutive combos without failing, as well as move very quickly. We’re moderately good at it, but if your fingers behave worse than ours, you may become quite frustrated with Magic Temple.
Design and Graphics
The graphics work behind Magic Temple is absolutely stunning. The game behaved well on our aging Android phone, and still managed to look gloriously bright and crisp.
However, there’s one aspect that we don’t like about Magic Temple. You see, to truly beat your high score (the only real point to the game) you’ll need to use boosts.
These are purchased via coins which, you guessed it, can be bought with real money. You can play the game to earn them, but it’s at a pretty glacial pace. We found this a bit lopsided, but honestly it’s not terrible.
There’s still a lot to enjoy with Magic Temple, especially for the free price tag.
Overall Value
As mentioned, Magic Temple is completely free in the Google Play Store.
That’s a tremendous boon for it, as well as a solid reason to snag it out of the store now.
If you’re into matching games or arcade games in general, we promise you’ll find a lot to love, as well as a few precious hours no longer ahead of you.
Magic Temple requires Android 2.2+ and up. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
