We’ve all been there: That old Samsung device that’s been hiding in the cabinet isn’t getting any younger, or snappier. You’ve long since given up on working it into a usable condition, and you’ve all but given up hope that it will ever see the light of day again. But should you?
In fact, it’s simple enough to turn your ex-phone’s luck around. Don’t believe us? Then here’s a few, simple, quick steps to take speed up and revive your aging Android device in mere seconds. Starting with:
1. This Ain’t Tupac Money. . . . Get Rid of the Cache
Unlike in every other part of your life, having spare cache lying around just isn’t a good thing. Your apps developer a whole lot of clutter over time, and if you let it build up without cleaning things, it’ll get gunky.
To clear your app cache data, you can do go to the Settings pane and individually visit each application. Just click “Clear Cache” on each.
Or, you can download the App Cache Cleaner and be done with it in one go. It’s up to you, but we know which we’d go for.
2. Move All Them Doggies to the SD Ranch
If you’re trying to get more performance out of your phone, take just a few minutes to move all of your unnecessary applications to the SD Card. This frees up more hard drive space, allowing for better RAM use and more efficient processing.
Again, you can do this app by app from the Settings menu, or you can download a tool like Clean Master to master the process for you. We’d actually suggest you do the latter in this case: A manual move isn’t exactly advised, as doing it all by hand can be quite time consuming. Save yourself ten minutes and eat a sandwich or something instead.
3. Try a Different Launcher Application . . . Yeah!
It may seem like a no brainer to those of us that enjoy a different launcher to begin with, but replacing the stock Android app can dramatically increase your speed and boost your performance.
This has to do with a simple principle: Often what you find under the hood of all that patented Samsung, HTC, or Google goodness can be quite clunky. In comparison, applications like Launcher Pro feature smoother coding and speedier implementation. But don’t take our word for it! Go ahead and give it a go right now, for free. Just head to the Google Play Store.
4. Get Rid of The Garbage, and Clean Out the Apps!
Do you have titles laying around on your phone’s memory drive that you never, ever use? What about old media files? If you haven’t touched it in a long time, you likely don’t need it. That’s precious bytes and performance being lost to nostalgia.
Cut it all out of your life, and be happy!
5. Turn Off All the Sync You Don’t Need
Lastly, be aware of what on your phone is automatically syncing and downloading information. If possible, try to turn off all the automatic updates you possibly can, as these will chug away in the background without you noticing, absorbing all of your performance and RAM with it.
It’s a simple fix, but even turning off a few continuously running features will even things out dramatically.
