When it comes to gaming genres, things are usually quite clearcut. There’s arcade games, RPGs, top-downs, and on-and-on. However, Match 3 Quest, from furry, decides to go for the gusto, combining roleplaying adventures and match three style games into one title.
The end result is what you see here. It’s an engaging mixture, and though at times it may feel like two houses smashed together without much grace, it’s still a lot of fun.

Concept and Functionality
Match 3 Quest tries to accomplish one thing: Combine roleplaying games with titles like Bejeweled. How does it do this? Mostly by having you choose a character type, and then select additional skills.
You earn gold and diamonds to buy these skills by playing a more traditional match 3 game.
However, during the course of your rather Bejeweled like experience, characters along the top of the screen will duke it out based on how you’re doing. As you whisk and whip pieces about, they do damage. Your specials also come into play here, providing a much needed dose of variance to the pool.
Match 3 Quest for Android
It’s an odd mixture, and at times, it feels like we’re playing a matching game with some other stuff tacked on. But the skills go a long way toward smoothing things out, and forming a bridge between all the elements.
Still, you’ll often feel like your matching efforts are more important than the rest. This isn’t necessarily bad, however, as the gameplay itself is great.
Design and Graphics
It also helps that Match 3 Quest looks as good as it does. It’s clear that the game is a polished effort, and one the developers wanted to be proud of.
What you find within the app is a wealth of hand-drawn artwork, many various characters, lots of exciting skill trees, and the standard amount of fun one expects from matching titles.
Overall, this blends quite well. The fact that Match 3 Quest is so highly-developed also adds a bit of necessary tack to the total concept. To phrase it another way, you certainly won’t notice the trees for the forest—and that’s a great thing.
Overall Value
Finally, Match 3 Quest is completely free in the Google Play Store. That’s a great reason to jump on what it has to offer, especially if you’re a fan of either roleplaying games or matching titles.
At times Match 3 Quest may be a bit jagged around the edges, but it’s still innovative and exciting. And with no price tag associated, you have nothing to lose.
