Creek
Android Game Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
When it comes to puzzle games, we aren’t picky. We’ll play just about anything that gives us levels to solve, and simple controls. Along those lines, our review of Creek today has us quite excited. The application delivers a unique puzzling mechanic, as well as an inventive world of flowers, frogs and obstacles.
It’s a good time out (especially for the price) and if you’re in the mood for some wicked, wet gameplay on the Android platform, this may be your best bet.
Concept and Gameplay
The idea behind Creek is pretty simple: To play the game, you’ll need to direct water around the level using the various obstacles. Where are you directing the stream to? Ideally, you’ll want every single drop to end up on one of the plants.
This rejuvenates them, and lets you clear the level. However, there’s at least one frog per level, too. These green guys soak up your water, rendering it useless. You’ll need to avoid their absorbent skin to successfully navigate the game.
It’s a fun concept, and though it’s not the first time we’ve seen it done, it’s still a great example of the genre. The levels are often quite challenging, requiring quick reflexes and some clear forethought. The fact that you’re directing liquids (instead of, say, a ball or something) is unique as well. It presents its own challenges, and can create some real headaches if you’re not careful.
All in all, Creek offers a solid concept with wide ranging potential—the fact that it’s fun as well is just a big, fat cherry on-top the cream.
Design and Graphics
Keeping all of that in mind, Creek isn’t the best-looking game we’ve ever seen. The graphics presented here are often a bit crude, and fairly inconsistent.
The background textures are shaded, while most of the foreground sprites are simple, Paint-esque bits. It’s a tad confusing, and we sincerely hope the developers smooth out these inconsistencies in the future.
Aside from this, though, the controls are simple enough, and the levels quite clever. This presents a fair opposition to the game’s other design flaws, and we’re more than happy to be lenient with the aesthetic appeal here.
Creek will not wow your eyes, but then again, it doesn’t necessarily need to: The game is still creative and simplistic enough to hold our interests.
Overall Value
At the end of the day, Creek is a brilliantly unique puzzling game for the Android platform, and if your system can support its weight (check out the Google Play Store page for tech specs) it’s well worth a look. At the least, Creek provides a good couple of hours of fun, if not much, much more than that.
Creek earns a solid four out of five stars from us, as well as our hearty recommendation.
Creek requires Android 2.3 and up. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
