Hungry Bird
Android Game Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
We’re always on the lookout for the latest and greatest in arcade games for the Android platform here at Android Apps Review. This is why we try out all the crazy clone games you’ve probably never heard of. Every now and again, we come across one that’s just right.
This is the case with Hungry Bird. Is it the best game we’ve ever played on the platform? Nope! But it does offer a solid concept, easy controls, and more than enough action to keep you occupied in the queue.
For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
The bird in question here may look exactly like one of the Angry Birds characters, and that’s because (as far as we can tell) it is. But the developers make a point to warn you: This is not a clone of the now classic mobile game. Rather, it offers something different—something that works like this:
Fruit falls from the top of the screen (Guess what they’re referencing there) and must be tapped to be consumed. The more your bird friend eats, the bigger he gets and the more points you score. This is good for those like us that dig a high score a little too much. However, if you “eat” a cactus, you’ll lose all of your points and hit game over.

Hungry Bird for Android
It’s a fun idea, and it really does pull from a variety of classic titles for mobile gaming. That being said, there’s little in the way of additional powerups or incentives here. The pace increases the longer you last, but aside from this, don’t expect much to change as you play the title.
Design and Graphics
Hungry Bird is actually pretty sharp looking, though we might like to point out that it does use very similar graphics from other games. That being said, it’s still a well-designed package, regardless of the source, and the controls could not be simpler. Just tap the fruit to eat it. That’s it!
As stated, we’d like to see more development on the powerups front. This would unlock a lot more potential in the game. Otherwise, it will remain what it is now: A solid concept with little replay value.
Overall Value
Though, the game certainly comes with some original play value! It’s free to download from the Google Play Store, which is a solid reason alone to grab it today.
It’s still a neat concept, starts up quick, runs well, and the developers have to be commended for making its ads relatively non-intrusive and not requiring any permissions beyond Network Communications, which more games should follow.
So, if you’re just looking for a new title to keep you busy while you wait in line at the DMV, this will do nicely.
Hungry Birds earns just under four out of five stars, as well as our recommendation to those in need of a good, classically minded arcade game.
Hungry Bird requires Android 2.3 and up. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
