We’re going to have to admit this on the front-end: Crazy Flying Squirrel is what we consider the perfect storm of games for your Android phone.
It’s quirky, vaguely stupid, endlessly entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny. More than anything, we think these are the kinds of cocktails that last the longest in your memory, and in your heart.
With that in mind, Crazy Flying Squirrel is one of the most endearing titles we’ve seen out for Android recently, offering great graphics, simple controls, and insane levels of fun. If that sounds like something you could get into, then skip on down to view our whole review below.
Concept and Gameplay
Crazy Flying Squirrel for Android
If we had to describe Crazy Flying Squirrel, we’d probably label it as a flying squirrel simulator. We’re tempted to say it’s a flight simulator, but this doesn’t quite cut it—though, the game certainly offers that level of complexity. Here’s what we mean:
Within the app, you will need to leverage a lot of different elements. For instance, you’ll have to contend with various wind sheers, speeds and other realistic aspects to achieve your goals. What are your goals? To fly from one floating island to the next, collecting nuts and avoiding obstacles as you go. Is that easy? Heck to the bloody no.
You’ll spend most of your time adjusting your pitch to go up or down. Doing this even slightly can drastically change your outcome. But, if you do everything perfectly, you’ll be able to fly smoothly from island to island, one after the other. This is the idea, anyway. But on the off chance you don’t (you won’t, at least not at first) the game rewards you regardless.
Design and Graphics
The main character is endlessly hilarious, screaming loudly at obstacles and generally cutting up over every little thing. He’s modeled after Scrat from the Ice Age film series, a model we’re quite fond of. The end result is a cartoon-like aesthetic that’s echoed everywhere else in the game. Sure, it’s extremely complex. But you’ll hardly notice for all the fun you’re having!
And for a game that hardly takes itself seriously, Crazy Flying Squirrel looks amazing. It truly does. The graphics are superb, the controls very well laid out, and in general it’s clear the developers have spent some real time perfecting what’s here.
Overall Value
And did we mention that Crazy Flying Squirrel is totally free in the Google Play Store? For absolutely nothing you an enjoy everything that it has to offer, from its hilarious noises to its endearing gameplay. That’s a true bargain to us, and though we aren’t going to label it perfect, Crazy Flying Squirrel still gets four and a half stars. Oh, and the highest possible recommendation.
