If you aren’t familiar with the object referenced in the title of this review, then you might want to be sure you actually had a childhood. We are, of course, talking about the plastic wheel with all the farm animals on it. You pull a string, there’s a dial that rotates, and whichever animal or object it lands on it plays its sound.

The app we’re covering today, Babatoo Gallery, from APIGRO s.r.o., does essentially the same thing, only on a much larger scale.

This excellent learning utility for children on the Android platform features a whopping 180 sounds. Not to mention the pictures that go with them!

It’s a wonderful learning opportunity, and if you’re looking for our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break.

Concept and Functionality

As stated, the idea behind Babatoo Gallery could not be simpler. It presents your child with a huge assortment of images for them to tap, based on categories. For instance, if they tap the music notes at the bottom of the application, they are presented with a grid full of stick figures playing instruments. Should they tap any of these, they’ll be rewarded with actual sounds produced by those instruments.

This reinforces a few crucial parts of early development. Firstly, it helps establish object permanence and shape recognition. And secondly, it just entertains the little ones. And to any parent, that’s quite a bargain right there.

Babatoo Gallery Android App Review

We love the wide assortment of objects and sounds that our children can play with here. You’ll find planes, trains and automobiles right beside zoo animals.

There’s also jobs and farm animals to work through. And don’t worry about your child losing interest: If they’re like most kids between 1 and five years old, they won’t mind repeating the app over and over.

Just remember, they’re gaining valuable learning tools!

Design and Interface

Better still, Babatoo Gallery could not be simpler: This is a good thing, considering the app is marketed towards kids pre age six. They can tap and wail on your tablet to their heart’s content without missing a beat—or a moo.

However, we might have liked to hear some actual language reinforcement here. Granted, your child may not be speaking fluently, but even presenting the word “Xylophone” after playing the sound might help them later in life. We’re no experts, but this could have been a great chance for the app to show us a new side to that old, speaker-ridden toy from our youth.

Overall Value

Still, it’s quite hard to argue with an app that’s completely free. And especially when it comes packed with almost 200 unique sights and sounds for your child to be entertained by. Truly, this is a bargain in the rough for any parent of a young child.

As such, we give it a solid four and a half stars out of five, as well as our cheerio-studded recommendation to any concerned parent.
