Concept and Functionality
Like most other tracking softwares on the market for the Android platform, TopSpy does what you’d typically expect.
To install it, you download an APK file off the company’s website, and then soundlessly add it to the device you’d like to monitor. There’s no real warning of this, and the user who’s device your tracking need not know of it.
Once the app is in place, you can remotely monitor information from that device using the company’s website. This web portal is a fairly robust one, offering information on call details, SMS transmissions, key presses, emails sent/received on monitored device, etc. It’s all the typical faire you’d expect, but the list hardly stops there.
TopSpy also allows you to monitor things like GPS location and call recordings, as well as additional app information. Want to know what that device has been doing on Facebook or WhatsApp?
Just look for those tabs in the web portal! It’s remarkably quick to navigate, and it takes no additional power on the device’s end to sync this stuff.
All in all, TopSpy is fairy feature rich, and is certainly a discreet option for those with a concerned need.
Design and Interface
That being said, TopSpy isn’t quite as robust as some of the other options on the market. The web portal is entirely bare bones, and though the amount of features is on par or better than some of the app’s competitors, the way in which it is presented is sadly lacking. Minimalism is one thing, but a lack of options is an entirely different area.
For instance, there’s no real overall activity viewing mechanic: No quick graph to get a feel for late-night calls or large-scale maps for extended period tracking. What’s here is good, but it’s certainly not bathed in luxurious interface enhancements. And who knows, to some that may be just the boon an activity tracking app needs!
Overall Value
The prices involved with TopSpy, however, are certainly on par with its competition. The application itself is totally free to download, but you’ll need a subscription to go along with it. The “Pro” plan will cost you at least $18 and some change a month. There are also two other plans; the “ProPlus” plan and the “Business” plan.
Though, there’s certainly no price tag for peace of mind. And if you’re in the market for such a solution, this may just be the perfect fit. It doesn’t hurt to take a look, and TopSpy is far from the worst of the bunch. With that in mind, TopSpy earns a solid recommendation from Android Apps Review.
