Android App Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
Being able to change the keyboard on your Android device is perhaps one of the best customization options available. Everyone has different typing speeds and preferences, and personally I love trying different keyboard apps to see if I can find anything better than what I’m already using.
Typewise Swipe Keyboard is a terrific upgrade to the stock Android keyboard app offering a plethora of cool features. It also showcases an entirely new layout design that changes everything you know about traditional typing.
Concept and Functionality
Changing your keyboard on an Android device can get a little tricky, but Typewise, developed by Typewise, does a great job of guiding you through the setup process when you first install the app.
There’s a very lengthy tutorial that shows you each feature and how to use the unique hexagonal key layout for faster typing.
At the end of the tutorial you can choose if you want to use the innovative hexagonal setup or stick with the traditional QWERTY layout.
Typewise claims that what sets it apart from other keyboard apps is the fact that it’s designed specifically for mobile phones. The keys are noticeably larger, and most of the functionality is based on long taps or swiping gestures.
For example, if you tap on a letter and swipe up, it will be capitalized. If you type something and swipe right to left on the keyboard, it will erase what you’ve written.
Personally I’ve used swipe typing on Google’s Gboard app, but I’m lucky if it recognizes what I’m trying to type. After trying Typewise for a few days I can see that the new layout requires a bit of practice, but trust me, the effort is worth it because it definitely improve typing speed and accuracy.
Features
Typewise is one of those apps that you think you shouldn’t expect much from just because it’s a simple concept, but it’s truly full of surprises. For example, the app learns what you type and actively assists with spelling corrections.
It’s worth noting that Typewise is not a swipe keyboard like you might be used to; you can’t swipe across keys to type out words. Instead, the intention is to swipe in different directions on each individual key in order to customize the letter you’re typing.
According to the developer, Typewise features 100% secure privacy because the app runs solely on your device and never transmits anything to a remote server. This means you won’t have to spend time granting all kinds of device permissions in order to use it.
Value
Typewise is available to download from the Google Play store for free, but there’s an option to purchase a Pro subscription if you find that the app is incredibly useful. The Pro version includes extra features like support for 40+ languages, custom emojis, themes, text shortcuts, and even more.
Subscription prices are $1.99 per month, $9.49 per year (promotional rate), or $24.99 for a lifetime license.
Overall, Typewise is a surprisingly revolutionary way to change how you type on your Android device. The fact that it doesn’t ask for device permissions or share information with a remote server might be enough for many people to make it their preferred keyboard app.
Typewise Swipe Keyboard is FREE and requires Android 6.0+. You can download it from Google Play.
