Those of us who have kids all face a version the same future. At some point they are going to be old enough to go to college and we would love for them to be able to do so without taking on a huge mountain of debt. The question is, how? How can a family feasibly save the kind of money that it takes to pay for their child’s education while still dealing with everyday life and the costs associated with it? It’s not an easy challenge. This is where Upromise comes in. Upromise is an innovative service that has created a vast network of both restaurants and stores. When members purchase from one of these stores they receive a cash back bonus deposited directly in their Upromise savings account. The account builds over time and can be used to help pay for your child’s education. Its a great service, one that’s free and that more people should be taking advantage of, especially with the introduction of their new Android App. But, before we get too excited, let’s go see just what that app has to offer.
Upromise
Features
The Upromise Android app is designed to help users locate stores and restaurants in their area who are part of the Upromise network. The idea being that the more purchases made at these specific vendors, the higher the benefit for both the store and the user. To find vendors near you, simply open the app then choose whether you are looking for a restaurant, retail store or gas station. Then, based on your GPS location, the app will show you your closest options.
These are great features. Ones that are both useful and relevant. The only problem is that it feels like something is missing….something big. See, as of this time there is no way to tie the Upromise app to your own Upromise account. Meaning that users have no way to track their account with the app….only find places where they can use it. For this app to truly stand out it needs to sync up with individual users Upromise accounts and allow them to track their account and keep it updated on the go.
Design
The design of the Upromise app is both straightforward and well thought out. Users have the option of viewing their search results in either list form or plotted out on a map of their current location. This allows them to weigh their choices based on both proximity as well as relevance. I appreciate both the clean layout and the lack of ads. Both make for a better app and a better user experience.
Value
Upromise is a free app. And, what’s more it actually pays you! Every time you use this service (mostly on everyday purchases that you would be making anyways) you receive a cash back bonus. This money accrues over time and has the potential to build into something substantial. It is one app that you don’t want to miss and a service that you should definitely take the time to sign up for.
