Earth Battle Android app, by developer AFTD Games Team, offers up some solid Space Invaders style gameplay with a wealth of additions, power-ups and cool graphics. This Android app is free in the Android Market, and if you’re looking for the next best diversion then look no further.

Gameplay

When delving into this Android app review, gameplay mechanics are certainly far from unique: You’re the lone defender of the planet (maybe budgets were tight that day) in the face of a massive UFO invasion. By tapping the screen, you fire various weapons at the horde of oncoming aliens, smashing them to bits in an attempt to keep them from the Earth. Controls are that simple, offering only a single click to fire and not much else. However, this doesn’t detract from the gameplay, but rather lends it a certain simplicity.

Earth Battle for Android

When you’re smashing waves of extraterrestrial baddies, there’s nothing more irritating than an unnecessarily complex interface. Earth Battles keeps it simple, and what it lacks in creativity it makes up for in ingenuity. The game features a whole host of power-ups, badder baddies, souped-up weapons and other enticing game elements. Earth Battles is all about stringing you along, begging you to keep playing and increase your score.

Design and Graphics

Earth Battle’s Android app graphics were a tad pixelated on my phone, but I’m hesitant to complain as the art style was so good. A great deal of time has been put into these sprites, and though the enemies are fairly generic looking, they’re expertly crafted. This is not a cheap offering in terms of graphics, though the retro look may not be for everyone.

There are a few heavy flaws with the game’s design, most notably the inclusion of adverts within the play space. I don’t like to complain about in-app advertising (money, obviously, needs to be made somehow) but when it’s so easy to click an ad and suddenly find yourself in the browser, I consider their presence a design problem. On top of that, some of the menus felt a bit shabby, specifically the ones present between levels. Icon and loading screens simply weren’t up to par with what the rest of the app was packing, which is a shame, really.

Overall Value and Fun

At the end of the day, Earth Battle Android app is a one-hundred percent free offering in the Android Market. For that price of entry you’ll get hours of (sometimes monotonous) finger-mashing fun that will have you trying your darnedest to beat your high score. Quality art design still overrules pixelated and sometimes off-putting graphics, and with such good gameplay, it’s impossible not to give Earth Battle a recommendation. If you’re looking for a quality Space Invaders experience on Android, this app’s got your back.
