Gameplay
Following in the fine tradition of Asteroids and a dozen different Star Wars games, Alien Battle makes it simple. You are an Allied Forces fighter, and everybody else in the sky is an alien zombie hell bent on world domination. Go get ‘em, Tiger.
Alien Battle
OK, so it doesn’t sound like the most sophisticated game I’ve ever done an Android app review of, but it is a lot of fun. And after weeks of poking annoyingly small controls, reading painful synopsis and sitting through five minute game intros, Alien Battle is a welcome break.
The idea is to destroy every enemy plane in the sky. There are ten progressively difficult levels populated with a variety of planes shooting at you. Dodge incoming shots and avoid running in to enemy planes to keep your health meter up. Collect boosts and shoot the crap out of every other plane in the sky. It’s that simple.
Controls
Alien Battle
In the Alien Battle Android app, your gun is on autopilot. Seriously. You don’t have to push a button or reload; all you have to do is control your plane. Tap the screen where you want the plane to go, and there you are. Collect boosts to improve the quantity and quality of the shots you fire (I’m particularly fond of the burst of shots that fire in every direction at once). There are even health boosts along the way to keep you going.
A small pause button and an audio control icon are the only other controls you have to worry about. Again, this Alien Battle Android app is a study of simplicity, and I like it.
Nostalgic Factor
I already threw a few names out there, but let me reiterate that Alien Battle is an awesome game for Android with a lot of throwback charm. There are dozens of old school fighter pilot apps in arcades that are just like this app, but your Android device can fit in your pocket. Try carting an arcade game around for an afternoon jaunt to the mall and see how far you get.
Value
Alien Battle app for Android is free and ad supported. I can’t hold a little revenue against this delicious slice of childhood. In a market where game trends come and go daily, I predict Alien Battle will stick around for a while.
