Written Android App Review

Do you miss that high school job flipping burgers? Ever wondered how your life would have been had you stuck it out and become manager of the local Burger Hut? Thanks to Stand O’Food, by developer G5, wondering is for the birds: The game has you slinging sandwiches and elbow deep in grease—and in fun!

Concept and Gameplay

The point of Stand O’Food is thus: You are a lone holdout at a fast food chain called, well, Stand O’Food. It’s up to you to grab food items off the racks behind you and slap them together into comestibles the masses will like. Each patron wants a specific thing (those picky so-and-so’s!) meaning you’ll have to choose the right ingredients or the customer won’t buy it. As things pick up you’ll have to strategize and plan out your food grabs, leaving the correct ingredients there when you need them. It’s tough work, and with loads of people in line, it can be quite nerve-racking. Almost makes you have pity on that bloke that gets your order wrong at McDonald’s—almost.

Stand O'Food

The gameplay offered here is mostly fun, and only a tiny bit frustration. Keeping up with the numerous orders and necessary ingredients is quite a challenge, and slaving for little to no change is oddly rewarding. However, when the wrong item is accidentally selected (and the extra plate is full) there’s no way to put it back on the conveyer belt. This means that one wrong move is the difference between jamming to the groove and screeching to a halt. This irritated me quite a bit, especially when I was at the very end of a wave and picked up a fish patty instead of a hamburger.

Depth and Design

Stand O’Food is sporting over 100 levels, as well as two different game modes. Add to that the ability to purchase extra condiments and upgrade your equipment, and you’re looking at one seriously complex restaurant game for Android. The app also makes you memorize recipes, as you’ll have to get them right to please the customer. This starts out simple but gets bloody complicated by the end of the game. There is a certain “career-mode” fun that’s inherent to the game. Working your way up and improving your restaurant is oddly satisfying. That being said, progress is a tad slow, as the cash isn’t quick off the cuff at the start. A faster pace, or the option to play Lunch Rush mode right off the bat, would be appreciated.

Overall Value

Stand O’Food is one-hundred percent free in the app-store, though you’ll have to purchase the full game in-app to continue the food spree. That being said, what’s offered here is incredibly entertaining, if sometimes a bit slow and frequently irritating. Stand O’Food is a fun one, and with a few updates, it’ll be a right gem.
