Every little girl dreams of being a fashion designer at least once in her life. I think it has to do with the sparkles! Now, you should know that she will also dream about being a princess, a hair dresser and a make-up artist at some point along the way. What can I say? Girl’s are known for changing their minds!

This is what makes the new Dressup: Make Up Android app so enticing. It lets the little (and little at heart!) girls in your life live out their dreams on your Android device. They get to dress their model and get her all glammed up for a night on the town.

The only problem is that the idea works much better than the execution! Let me explain.

Dressup: Make Up

Features

The Dressup: Make Up Android app is designed to be every little girl’s dream! Not only do you get to dress your model in the fun sparkling clothes that little girls love, but you also have the chance to give her a glamorous do and some fierce makeup. Fun!

I love how you get to choose everything for your model. How you can pick her hair, choose her clothes and do her make up. What I don’t love are how limited the options seem to be. An app like this is based on variety and Dressup: Make Up just doesn’t seem to have that variety as part of the mix. But, the game is still fun especially for the younger crowd.

Now, there is one thing to watch out for here. If you check out the top of the screen shot you will see a nice big ad running right across the top of the Dressup: Make Up screen. Ads like this can be dangerous in little hands. Mainly because you cannot control what they are for or if they will end up costing you cash. So just be aware of the ads and warn any little ones to stay away.

Functionality

I hate to say it, but functionality was a big glaring weak spot for Dressup: Make Up. The problem? The dreaded force close. When I review games like this I spend some time messing around on my own, and then I hand my Android over to a smaller set of hands to see how they like it. The problem with Dressup: Make Up was that those little hands couldn’t make it through a whole outfit without the Dressup: Make Up Android app force closing and having to start all over. And this didn’t just happen one or two times, it happened almost every single time we worked with the Dressup: Make Up Android app.

Also, while the permissions list is on the short side, there are a couple of items on there that gave me pause. I would say be aware of these permissions and take a good hard look at them before you add the Dressup: Make Up Android app to your own device.

Fun Factor

How fun can a game be if it force closes every single time you try to play it? This is the real problem with Dressup: Make Up. The base is nice and the idea is strong, its just that the execution is blatantly lacking. I would like to see this Android app go through a reinvention from the ground up. More options, better programing and fewer permissions would make for a nice package worthy of any sparkle loving little girl. Until then? You’re better off just going for the uninstall.
