Drunk Man, by developer GameLink, is the kind of Android app that you love to play, but have to cringe at no matter how many run-throughs you give it. The app comes with a unique game concept that’s every bit as hilarious as it is challenging. Drunk Man has a bit of an advert problem, just as its protagonist has a problem of a different nature, but as a free offering in the Android Market, it certainly won’t be breaking the bank.

Concept and Gameplay

Drunk Man for Android

Drunk Man Android app offers one of the most unique game ideas I have ever seen in a mobile application (and trust me, we’ve seen some weird ones). The app has you guiding a woefully besotted man as he attempts to stagger his way home.

As the protagonist winds his way down the alleyway, he’ll start to tilt to the left or right. If he hits the ground, it’s all over. To keep him up on his feet the player must tap the opposite side of the screen from his stumble. This usually sends him careening the other way, requiring even more adjustment. The further away he gets, the harder it is to keep him afloat, and the more exciting things become.

All in all, it’s a great concept for a quick time-killer, and though it’s certainly fun, Drunk Man can become repetitive at times: This is most notable at the beginning of a new round, with the previous victories still fresh in mind. The developers have offset this by including online leader boards, but it’s not quite enough incentive to return again and again. With that in mind, Drunk Man will likely be more of an occasional time waster than an Android gaming mainstay.

Design and Controls

Drunk Man goes light on the menus—in fact, there are none to be had here at all. Aside from the included leader boards, there’s no menu with options or settings for you to drool over. Thankfully, the controls are simple enough to warrant a clean-cut interface. There’s a basic help guide to get you started before dumping you into the touch-based bliss that is Drunk Man’s controls.

However, there is one stickler in the app’s excellent presentation: Bloody adverts. The developers have placed the included banner ads in just such a position as to be hard to avoid and easy to click. Though irritating, I suppose it’s a fair price to pay for a free app.

Overall Value

At the end of the day, Drunk Man is one-hundred percent free in the App Store, making it a tremendous value for the price of entry. The gameplay is hilarious (though all too true) and will keep you entertained during a boring stretch of the queue.

Android Apps Review Details: Drunk Man app is free. This app requires Android 1.5 and up. You may download Drunk Man from the Android Market.
