Paper Cars BETA Android app, by developer Evil Indie Games, is a brilliant example of what a little initiative, some clever design, and wicked in-game art can do for an indie title on the Android platform. The Android app game is a beast of a racer, and with heaps of quirky graphics, it’s guaranteed to please the eye-candy obsessed gamer in everyone.

Concept and Functionality

Paper Cars BETA for Android

My Android app review found that the concept behind Paper Cars BETA is simple: What would happen if the world were made of small, roughly cut paper cars? Better yet, what if these cut-outs raced each other for cash, which could then be used to purchase upgrades, weapons, and even more cars? The answer—it would be incredibly fun, and would look amazing on the Android platform.

Paper Cars BETA is essentially a racing game like any other, allowing players to purchase their first car, and then pursue cups to earn money to buy upgraded parts. There’s several different racing modes offered here (the stock time race, a three car pile-up, etc.) with several more options loaded at the ready once unlocked.

However, the game’s quirky atmosphere is what differentiates it from other car-based apps for Android. Paper Cars BETA’s graphics are incredible—more on that in a minute—while its Mario Kart style weapons add a fun creativity to the mix.

With 14 different cars, 11 missions, and heaps of parts, there’s a lot to be found inside Paper Cars BETA’s trunk. Each of these unlockables adds a new level of gameplay to the whole, creating an experience that pulls the user forward, begging them to blast, wind, and bend their way through one more level to earn another set of tires.

Graphics and Controls

It cannot be stated enough: Paper Cars BETA sports some of the coolest graphics we have ever seen for Android. The app features a paper cut-out theme that compliments the hotrod models to a T. Likewise, all the various upgrades and part replacements create visible vehicle improvements, which only furthers the incentive to play another match, and purchase another upgrade.

I also appreciated the fact that Paper Cars BETA comes with several different control schemes. My favorite was the simplistic arrow controls, but there’s also a steering wheel, as well as the option to use your phone’s G-sensor to navigate courses. Each adds a unique flavor to the total, and each is just as responsive as the other.

Overall Value

Considering Paper Cars BETA is free in the Android Market, there’s not a lot to lose by giving it a test drive—if you’ll pardon the pun. The graphics are gorgeous, the game as indie as it gets, and the action engaging. With such a low price of entry, Paper Cars BETA is a must-have for Android device-owning race fans.
