The latest target defense Android app to grab (and keep) my attention is Tiny Robots from RunnerGames Studios.

If you’re ready to ward off evil alien robots and protect the planet’s plants, take a look at our Android app review of Tiny Robots.

Tiny Robots Android App Review

Tiny Robots

In the Tiny Robots Android app you are a robot who scrambles across a board protecting three seed pods from invading aliens. It’s like Missile Defense, only with some serious upgrades.

You control the heroic tiny robot with your Android’s accelerometer. Unlike so many apps out there, Tiny Robots has really well tuned tilt control. The game is easy to control.

Alien robots come in several different shapes and sizes and they all attack in different ways.

My only gameplay complaint is that it is so easy to die in this app. A single touch from a robot takes away one third of your health. Thankfuly even if you die you start again on the same level.

Speaking of levels, there are currently three different worlds to explore and defend with 45 total levels to play. And there are already “coming soon” signs in the app for additional expansions in the future. There’s no lack of entertainment value here.

Tiny Robots

Let’s go ahead and address the small yellow robot elephant in the room. The Tiny Robots Android app totally rips off the insanely adorable Disney Pixar film “Wall-E,” right down to the little green symbol on the plant pods that the adorable little guy is defending.

At least this app choose a really well animated film to emulate. It’s the most sincere form of flattery, right?

Either way, the robots and design elements of the Tiny Robots Android app are great. They manage to be clear while retaining a little retro charm reminiscent of arcade style games. And I dig it.

They do lose a star for being unoriginal. Shame on you. Think up your own universally appealing robot character next time, RunnerGames Studios.

Value

Despite the blatant character rip off, I really like the Tiny Robots Android app. It is easy to play with a lot of interesting opponents, not to mention the soundtrack is hilarious.

It doesn’t hurt that this app is completely free to download and play either. There are no hidden boosts or items to unlock. Just download Tiny Robots from the Android Market and enjoy.

Like most free apps, Tiny Robots is supported by ads. However, they are tucked inconspicuously at the bottom of the screen during gameplay, and no touch game play makes it very easy to avoid accidentally tapping on one.

In case you couldn’t tell, I’m going to tell you to download and enjoy Tiny Robots. This app is what Android gaming is all about.
