Avenger: Android Apps Written Review

In Avenger it’s you against the world. Take on evil demons, battle big, bad bosses and exact your vengeance as you pursue your lost love across the world. This is an action adventure title with some typical graphics and a lot of slashing fun. If you’re ready to take on a world full of angry monsters, our Android app review of Avenger can show you the way.

Avenger is an adventure style game with an RPG feel and storyline. The game is broken up into several chapters, and you follow along as our hero slays room after room of evil demons in his quest for vengeance. The story isn’t particularly original. Boy loves girl, evil demons somehow make off with girl, devils want to take over the world, boy goes on quest to avenge missing girl, etc.

The action is constant. You’ll fight on short boards full of evil devils just begging to be slashed up, and there are about 30 different levels so there’s plenty of game to play. Along the way your character and weapon will have upgrades and enchantments to improve them, and you’ll collect coins as you demolish baddies. The storyline will occasionally interject to keep you up to date with what’s going on.

Avenger’s dialogue could use another round of English translation, and the game play is pretty basic. Slash, run, jump, repeat. Remember to save your progress at the friendly blue fairy boards. Still, if you feel the need to hack at stuff, Avenger definitely delivers.

Layout & Design

Avenger

Like so many other free titles, Avenger has decidedly outdated graphics, reminiscent of mid-90s Nintendo games. They work is fuzzy and sometimes decidedly indistinct. However, the game loads and progresses quickly, and it’s all about the hack and slash anyway, so maybe you won’t even pause to notice the uninspiring graphic work.

Navigating is simple, but can be a little frustrating. Unless you are actively using the game controls they disappear. While that does make it easier to see the full screen and read the dialogues and storyline stuff, it’s kind of frustrating when you are starting the game.

Also, the virtual joystick control will appear almost anywhere you tap on the left side of the screen, so if you touch too close to the side of the app you won’t be able to use the left arrow. That has the potential to be seriously irritating.

Overall Value

While Avenger might be simple, it is detailed and pretty easy to play. And, best of all, it’s priced to move. Download Avenger and add it to your collection of 2D action adventure titles for free. It’s hard to argue about an app’s value when it doesn’t cost anything, especially when the action is quite gratifying. We suggest this title, just don’t expect too much.
