Fruit Devil: Android Written App Review

Fruit Devil is an interesting take on a runner app. The motion is all left to right, but what happens in between is pretty magical. If you’ve been looking for a new colorful game to keep you distracted, our Android app review of Fruit Devil may be just the ticket.

Gameplay

Reviewed by Valerie Lauer

In Fruit Devil you’ll control a colorful fruit-loving dragon. He’s running and taking to the skies in search of that tasty fruit. Along the way you’ll face obstacles, collect boosts and shoot up in the air after clouds of fruity goodness that can sustain your flight.

But be careful. Any time you go air born you’re burning energy. The trick is to collect enough fruit to keep Fruit Devil alive. If your fruit meter runs dry, it’s curtains for your fiery friend.

As you run, fly and dive your way along, you’ll meet with a lot of variety. There are tons of different boosts, platforms and evil fruit strength zapping baddies to contend with. Unfortunately, like so many runners, Fruit Devil is all one long, never ending level. So it can get a bit monotonous, not to mention discouraging. You only have one life, so there’s no way to make it to a check point or continue with a second life.

There is a healthy selection of badges you can earn, for strong fruit runs to reaching great heights. Those help keep the game interesting, but we still found it a bit too boring to encourage repeat gameplay.

Layout & Design

Fruit Devil

Fruit Devil is decidedly colorful and interesting. The design work is pretty good, even if it’s decidedly two-dimensional. As we already mentioned, the course is randomized, so even though you may run over and over again from the beginning, you won’t face the exact same set up every time. Smart touches like this add to Fruit Devil’s appeal. Besides, the little fruit munching devil is insanely adorable. It’s hard to be grouchy while playing such a cute game.

Functionality

We experienced a few random frozen screens and extended load times with this app. It also coincided with a few issues on our Android, so it’s possible that Fruit Devil isn’t the healthiest app for your device.

Overall Value

If you can put up with a few annoying ads, enjoying and playing Fruit Devil is entirely free. Being able to find fun free apps that we actually enjoy playing is just one of the reasons Android is the best. If you love runners or just have a thing for fruit, this app definitely deserves a gander.
