Lightning Text 3D: Android App Video Review

As much as we dig modern technology—and to be fair, we tend to dig it a lot—texting still tends to get under our nerves. Not because we don’t like being pinged by friends and family at every inconvenient moment, but because the process is so dang slow. However, with Lightning Text 3D, a new app from developer MiaBella, our life just got a little bit easier. The app’s gorgeous, rotating splendor of a texting ball makes it simple to send quick, standard messages, as well as our own customized offerings. All in all, if you’re an avid texter who tends to send the same messages frequently, the app can be a real timesaver. For our full thoughts on this automated messaging application, check below beyond the break!

Concept and Functionality

Lightning Text 3D for Android

A while back we had a look at the predecessor to Lightning Text 3D, which tended to treat rapid texting with a more wallpaper-influenced approach. At the time, we thought the live wallpaper would make an excellent dedicated app, and we’re glad to see the transition faired Lightning Text 3D well. The app presents the user with a fully functional, 3D ball, which is studded with panels offering standard messages like, “On My Way,” “Be Home Soon,” or “Feed the Dogs.” The user can freely change these elements to match their own standard message needs, but either way the functionality is the same. Any panel can be double tapped. When this happens, the ball changes to reflect available contacts. When the user double taps on a panel here, the app then prepares to send the message. With a quick confirmation, the process is over, and the text is mailed away. It’s quick, simple, and quite effective, provided you’re looking for a stock message or standard contact.

Design and Layout

Overall, we were quite impressed with the app’s design and layout. The ball was fluid and responded well to touch. Additionally, we also liked the setting that allows us to change the ball’s rotational speed. This made it much easier to control texts, as we typically found the ball a bit too quick to manage. Otherwise, users are free to change the color of the 3D orb itself, add new messages, and customize the contacts at work. It’s a quick way to customize the ball, but with settings tucked away from the visual representation itself, we found the process a bit disorienting. Adding the customization directly to the interface would be a tremendous boon, though it’s hardly a deal breaker.

Overall Value

At the end of the day, we were quite pleased with the smooth functionality and gorgeous design of the app. It really did make it simple to send messages we use often, and though the practicality of using a ball to send messages could be debated—as far as time saving is concerned—it works well regardless. The $0.99 price tag is fair, and if you’re looking for a faster way to text, the app is waiting.
