Shooting Warrior Plus: Android Apps Written Review
We make no bones about it here at the Android Apps Review: We really love castle and tower defense games. There’s just something about this mix of ribald action, intense strategy, and slaying orcs that gets our blood pumping. If you’re the same way, or are just looking for a rad game to play during your morning commute, check out Shooting Warrior Plus by developer Daerisoft. The app brings a lot of fun innovations to the genre, combining killer graphics, great levels, and more power ups than one could feasibly shake a (very large) stick at. If you’re interest has been piqued, you can head on down below the break to see our whole review of this great castle defense app for the Android platform.
Concept and Gameplay
Shooting Warrior Plus
The underlying concept behind Shooting Warrior Plus is (more or less) the same as every other castle defense game currently available in the Android Market. The player micro-manages a team of units, guiding them across the level to the enemy’s gate, which must be attacked and destroyed to complete the level. However, the game does add a few interesting innovations to keep the concept fresh. For instance, new units are assigned to the cannon at the beginning of the level. These units are then shot into existence, allowing the user to put them exactly where they want them. This helps when making a big push towards the enemy gate, and it’s simply fun, to boot. Additionally, the game allows the player to choose one of three unique heroes. These heroes gain experience as they’re played with, allowing an immense number of upgrades to enter the picture. This is the same across the board: Shooting Warrior Plus allows for a lot of improvements, involving everything from the cannon itself to the units the player uses to conquer enemy hordes.
Design and Graphics
If we had to describe Shooting Warrior Plus as anything, we’d likely call it a perfect storm mix between Maple Story and Army of Darkness. The app’s graphics are cute, but without being kiddy or endearing. Likewise, we loved the complexity and variety in usable units. There’s a lot of strategy to be had here, though we do have to admit: Most of the time we just spammed our fully upgraded ground troops. This form of en-masse massacre tended to fair the best, meaning we could often bypass the need for more complex thought processes.
Overall Value
We’ll spin it to you this way: For the three bucks Shooting Warrior Plus costs, you’ll get one heck of a lot of functionality out of the app. There are more than enough levels to keep you busy, plenty of upgrades, and enough engaging strategy to make even the most hardcore of fans melt in their seat. Shooting Warrior Plus is a stellar entry into the genre, and we really can’t speak highly enough of it.
